Yes; I’ve complained that the sheer production burden of voice acting severely limits the developer’s ability to change and add story beats and dialogue as development progresses, making games less coherent and flowing but also less weird and mysterious. Looks like all you need to buck that trend is someone as powerful and respected as Yuji Horii forcing a whole company to do what he wants.
This is a game which technically they’ve already made three times (the 2D and 3D versions on 3DS, plus the PS4 version) so don’t underestimate their ability to make things complicated!
going to be turning the voices off immediately
Dunno, I think the British accents make it instantly sound better than pretty much every other generic anime RPG dub ever.
People speaking dry, laconic American English in a magical world loosely based on feudal Europe is why I enjoy dq
this is precisely why i dislike it, it’s what americans think british people sound like
my hype for this is still bordering on the obscene mind, ignore my nitpicking
Isn’t this dub by the same british studio that did the Heroes games?
possibly!
nobody really sounds like this though
also gmg have been doing 25% (oh, it’s now 24) off preorders for the pc version
I guess it is a bit like how some Australian movies sound a lot more ‘aussie’ than we actually do in real life
wow i am actually devastated by the introduction of voice acting to mainline DQ
this is a first, right?
i need some time to think about this
The US release of DQ8 had lots of voice acting.
the western release of 8 had voice acting (and later the japanese 3ds remake)
japanese xi doesn’t have any
i guess now that i think about it, i remember some voice acting in DQ8 (a game i put probably 50+ hours into), but it was it game-wide or limited to cutscenes? i don’t remember much tbh. after this prodding i have the vaguest memory of yangus’ voice now
It was in cutscenes. I think it’s pretty good! (even though i rarely have it on lol) Yangus was a particular standout
They are all real actual Brits but they’re doing wacky comedy voices
it was cutscenes only but there was a lot of it. and yeah i tend to think it was pretty good, too, though it might just be that it had at least a little personality
OK, well if this new game limits the voices to cutscenes only as well it’ll probably be fine!
though again the japanese version didn’t have voice acting and you can just turn it off if you want!!
yeah it’s in battle too but you can just turn it off
pretty confident this game is gonna fuckin’ rule either way
oh shit, you know
was there an option to switch it off in 8? if so, that’s probably why i can only barely recall despite dumping so much time into that game
