FUCK YEAH DRAGON QUEST (Part 1)

Imp is so good, I always forget that small one

Dracky is also so good

Anyway Dracky is the best, even in the original game:

It is still worth playing today, even just for a few hours. I like it as an alternate dimension Pokemon where breeding is the only game in town and you have to carefully manage a lineage of strong monsters. Like, it’s not at all worth having a competitive scene since there are obvious winners and losers among the monsters, but it’s a really neat alternative to pokemon.

The monsters are why I play Dragon Quest.

Imps are cute in gameplay too, they will try to cast spells that are far too high level for their MP reserves and waste their turns. Then later you encounter palette swaps that actually CAN cast those spells. Dragon Quest is good at little jokes like that i think

I saw something about DQ11 Japan that made me so stoked at the idea of it happening for the English versions: when you beat the game you get a download code to get a free copy of a hidden(?) port/remake of DQ1 to play on ps4

Yo Hammerhoods were introduced for Dragon Quest Monsters, I just learned that

These little folks are so iconic to me, I thought they must have been in an earlier mainline game, but they don’t show up in an original DQ until VIII!!!

I can’t wait for this game to launch on Switch, I am so excited even though I don’t have a release date at all. Dragon Quest is the Perfect Mobile Game

They’re definitely in 5, I’m playing the SFC version and they’re the first monster I recruited.

I’m excited to have one on TV again! Though I might double dip because the ps4 version looks amazing while the 16-bit tile option on 3ds looks great too.

Is there a Dragon Quest game for me?

I…

-Loved Dragon Quest Monsters when I was 9 and looking for more Pokemon

-Am enjoying Dragon Quest Builders a lot, and dig the music.

-Mostly hate JRPGs, except EarthBound is my favorite game.

-Am looking for something to play on my 3DS

-Don’t like when games are 60 hours long

-Couldn’t get through Pokemon Sun/Moon. Stalled out after enjoying the first 10 hours or so.

You could get Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime for the DS, it’s a real good game and fleshes out the slimeiverse. It’s more like Builders in that it’s kind of like Zelda and you’re slowly restoring a town, but it also has tank battles where you throw random objects you find into cannons, which is just wonderful. One of my favorite games of all time.

I also liked Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 1 and 2 for the DS, but I’m kind of a fanboy for DQM so I’ll play any of those.

If you have a hacked 3DS you could play the fanlation of the DQM remake. I couldn’t get it to work myself.

before DQ7/8 most Dragon Quest games were 30 hours or less

try and get a copy of DQ4 or 5, the ds remakes are fine if you can deal with some bad eye dialect in the translations.

They’re by far the best of the series

DQ5 has some very light monster catching elements to it

seconding the recommendation of 4/5

dragon quest can be very breezy, if you use all of the tools you’re given and shop smartly you shouldn’t have to grind

Intriguing… If I had to choose between 4 or 5, as a total DQ newbie, which one would you recommend?

5 is equally good but it sounds like you don’t necessarily love jRPG affectations for their own sake and it has a lot of that going on

5 is also the best game story about middle age and accepting limitations…it’s considered the best in the series for a reason.
