FUCK YEAH DRAGON QUEST (Part 1)

pretty sure the musou games and 8 bombed really, really hard
hoping xi in english is a given re: being on ps4 though, the install base is still tiny in japan right?

I want to believe squeenix is smart enough to understand that “grand pastoral jRPG” has enough of its own appeal that “dragon quest musou” absolutely does not outside of japan (they were smart enough to localize 8 in the first place after all!) but idk

I remember there was doubt that the remakes would come out here too. Squeenix are always hesitant about translating Dragon Quest things, i think even in 2017 the fanbase stateside is kinda niche. I think they’ll probably do it though. A new full-3D main series title seems like a safe bet, and if they didn’t the hardcores would just import anyway/

Now, whether they’ll do both the PS4 and 3DS versions is a different story. That simultaneous release is such a strange gimmick (as is the 2D/3D split) and i wouldn’t be surprised if the handheld release got slagged off as an inferior version (fairly or otherwise).

i’ve always been totally confident they would do it but it is starting to feel weird that they haven’t even mentioned it
Update: Meanwhile, the PR Bureau has said to talk too early and not to do the Dragon Quest 11 PR (yet). However, this does not mean that DQ11 does not come to the West because Square Enix does not deny it.

Original Message: The newest part of the Draqon Quest series comes to the West, and also to the Netherlands. This confirms the PR agency that will provide Gamer.nl with the promotion of the game.

Dragon Quest 11 has so far only been confirmed for the Japanese market, where the game appears on July 29 for both PS4 and 3DS. There is even a special edition planned with both versions in the same box. A Switch version is also in the making, but it has no release date yet.

It is not yet clear whether both versions of the game also come to the market in the West. Also, there is no information about any combi-box like in Japan.

The Western appearance date is unknown yet.
This was something someone put on neogaf a few weeks ago. Apparently a dutch website let slip that the PR company they work with told them to prepare to market Dragon Quest XI in the western markets. Then told them not to talk about it just yet, as per the update.

So, you know, BELIEVE. And so on.

Hmm, was hoping they could get it out by this year’s end but relieved to see it’s getting a Western release. It’s probably for the best because they might have it available for Switch and that’s the console I’d rather play it on anyway.

watching some of the xi videos/streams now this thing is out in japan and it looks seriously lush but the midi music (and the amount of old material reused) is a bit jarring

That’s Dragon Quest for you

yeah i’ve been watching a few streams and its a bit strange

the lack of voice acting is refreshing (though also very dragon quest)

this is kinda cool

I kinda wish I had avoided the internet, got excited about DQ through playing DQ11, beaten DQ11, and then have gotten surprised by this.

Outside of that petty want, though, this is really cool.

Groan

I think this game looks wonderful, visually

It blows my mind that someone on here thought it looked boring
