You’d more or less be getting the same TV experience but with the hassle of taking discs/cards out.
Thanks to the PC Engine thread I’ve played literally hundreds of PCE games on the MiSTeR and have encountered only one game with glitches and I am sure I just need to file the bug report.
And it doesn’t look as cool as the real frankensteins of hardware.
It’s funny this thing is finally going on sale, because the announcement of it and my panicking about how I was gonna get a hold of certain games and all that is what I think prompted @meauxdal to tell me to just get a Mister.
When I wound up putting the one game that couldn’t be run off an SD card in my Mega Sg, and…ran everything else off the SD card, I think that was it for me and Analogue stuff.
They’re pretty good, though! Still glad I got a Super Nt and finally got to play a bunch of Super Nintendo/Famicom games “authentically”…I just try not to think about how much I would have saved on a Mister back then…
yeah i have an NT Noir and the Super NT which are both useful to me because i have a lot of those carts. i own exactly 3 PC-E CD games, and even though the consumer in me is tempted to start on the TG-16 route, it just feels slightly less urgent.
like i’d rather impulse buy an actual PC-E on a trip to Japan or something
Exactly what I was for, thanks! I got the kinda orangey one. It says gold but eh
I’m curious about the new console like one they teased but it looks super expensive and who knows when it will come out. Plus I’d have to toss my hub and io board and that seems like a waste.
Neo Geo Pocket core getting close now. games are booting! this thing was announced forever ago and has been hit with considerable delays, but it seems to be approaching the finish line
excited
also the Saturn core is really shaping up! played some Gex on there the other night and it seemed really close
And Neo Geo Cd core is released complete with 4x CD speed to get past those load times. It’s on the main update distro. I’m excited to eventually try some Neo Geo CD games this time. I’ve missed the chance to play Neo Geo CD games for 20 years!
robert peip is doing some kind of black magic or ritual sacrifice type shit, there’s no way
he already has a retail n64 game (namco museum 64) running pretty well (some glitches here and there) with audio on the DE-10 nano. like… what? that ain’t legal
he’s already working on the RSP! what the actual fuck
non-trivial to get a mister setup for a reasonable price these days due to chip shortages and the de-10 nano’s price going up like 3 times since 2020, but it is still the absolute best dedicated gaming device you can purchase in 2023, for any amount of money, imo
i’d literally rather have a mister than a PS5!
when i got in, it was already the best price/value proposition i’d ever partaken in w/r/t videogames. there were a lot more bugs then, and stuff like MacPlus and NeoGeo were randomly unstable and janky. but, the locomotive keeps chugging and more stuff keeps dropping and it’s like ubiquitous christmas
e.g. cores added since i got onboard the mister train:
32x
Atari 7800 - world-class implementation, possibly preferable to MAME/ProSystem
sadly it would require major rewrites - SNES/Genesis/TG16 cores weren’t written with savestates in mind and as a result there’s no way to cleanly and simultaneously pause/unpause everything and store the state.
SNES with its enhancement chips is also troublesome for this
massive amount of work in order to fix the cores not having certain (very useful and good) emulator enhancements - the effort/payoff ratio for a core developer is really pretty poor
