food, glorious food (and drink)

it does curdle the dairy a tiny bit (or, if heated, completely), so probably prudent to use another sort of milk, unless you don’t mind slurping curds

Ate a piece of raw beef liver last week. Maybe it was me being hungry but it tasted really good.

Resorted to frying my beef liver again. I’m too weak.

Heytea has started bottling their teas and I had to restrain myself from buying two of everything in 99 Ranch when I found out.

So far I’ve had the 0 sugar oolong (excellent, nicely balanced and less tannic than when I brew and chill myself). Drinking the peach fruit tea now and really enjoying myself during my lunch break.

I got an air fryer. I looked at a long spreadsheet that an air fryer enthusiast wrote and purchased an open-box Cosori TurboBlaze for $57. Turns out everyone is right, the Air Fryer cooks food good.

I have eaten more chicken wings in the last two weeks than I have eaten in the last two years.

I have also made fries.

I used Chris Young’s technique, which is:

  • Use thick cut fries*, frozen in a bag from the store
  • Soak them in warm water for one (1) minute
  • Put them in a container and shake them vigorously for 30 seconds
  • Microwave them for ~5 minutes
  • Air fry at 400f for ~15 minutes
  • Toss in a bowl with lots of oil/fat and salt.

I tried this with Ore Ida brand “Steakhouse” fries. They are more like a wide plank than a thick rod. Didn’t come out right, tried a few more times, didn’t come out right. Waxy and crunchy.

But then, I bought the exact fries he is using in the video. Strong Roots brand “Proper Fries”, they sell them at Whole Foods and they are like $6 a pound.

They came out very good, crisp outside creamy inside, best thing I have Air Fryered.

made cranberry cheesecake overnight oats by simmering cranberries in orange juice and zest and some ginger and sugar til they popped and got all mushy, put that at the bottom of the jar after it cooled

in the middle I put my standard base oat mixture, ymmv

I mixed cream cheese, honey, vanilla, and a splash of half and half then put that on top of the oats then I crumbled graham crackers on top and it’s so good

they’re never a lot to look at but AHHH I’m gonna start making more complicated overnight oats more often
