It was definitely a little surreal to see one of those mounts running around during one of the more serious parts of the story in this expac.
tone-defying sillyness is just part of this game’s experience really, it’s not a bulletproof piece of fiction and that’s that

finished endwalker. it somehow is the best written game ever and still remains a final fantasy game to the core. as someone who’s standards are too high so I never get rewarded the things I desire in a videogame story, EVERY BEAT HIT EXACTLY WHERE I WANTED IT TO. all the pieces are in place so you can feel really clever about understanding what’s coming even though every time they ‘reveal’ a plot point another character is like ‘duh’ and says exactly what you noticed. they kept saying what I was thinking over and over and over and it sucked me in so hard, the dialogue choices for your player character actually made me pause to think about what I was going to say, and pookia was able to be really fucking weird and silly throughout the story. finally, an actually ROLE PLAYING game

the english translation of the moenbryda minion is completely disgusting now though. like she is not a blow up doll for urianger in any of the descriptions but the english one
and like given his whole fucking arc in this expansion it makes that description so fucking gross, like before it was like hahaha bad immature joke but now it seems heartless
the chris redfield punching boulders line in re village was entirely an invention of the localization team. this is always some kind of sick meme game to these people. no respect for the material

I finished it as well and loved everything with all of the ending stuff. The story beat that really got me was a few levels earlier though:
Mastya? (the elephant fellow you teach how to sell things) trying to run to safety with a baby, simultaneously trying to keep them both calm so as not to turn into blasphemies had me agog, genuinely didn’t know what was going to happen there. Intense!
Ending spoiler: I was so sure one of the twins was going to die, like “die” die and I’m really glad I’m wrong. Maybe it’s a copout but I don’t care, let the scions live forever

I do wonder what the wider experience with Endwalker so far is. Our FC, and most people I know, all belong to the group of sickos who will sit in queues 1-2 hours long because we think the game is that good. But on lalachievements, who is almost entirely people choosing to create accounts to keep track of their progress, and thus self selecting for active players, only 1.6% have gotten an item for finishing the story and only 1.2% have gotten an item you can get immediately upon starting the expansion.
i’m definitely electing to play later in the (AU) evening rather than brave the queues … not that it stops me trying my luck a couple times during the day
I personally decided today to back off for a few weeks and come back when things have improved. Maybe I’ll check in during the AM sometimes to run a couple of roulettes. I was getting too frustrated by the queues, and then had the miserable experience of getting booted after login twice in a row.
im holding off for money/time reasons atm, but seems like that is for the best. can’t wait to dig in when i can.
