ff6 remake that looks like the amano box art is something i would get legit giddy about
I guess they could also include the whole of the edgar/terra/banon scenario at the end of the theoretical first game of 3 so they wouldn’t have to add shadow/cyan/gau/celes as party members until the sequel… starting with sabin and locke’s scenarios before the narshe reunion coming at the… 1/3 mark of that second game?
that would probably have good ensemble vibes tbh because you would hardly get to play as terra until the latter half of game 2 or game 3 (with the way the WoR starts), she’d be like goku until after the zozo and phunbaba scenarios respectively, constantly kept out of commission
they would probably have to make mog/setzer/relm all non-playable until the WoR game the way they did with vincent and cid in FF7r2 just to save on how many new characters they’re adding
idk if we do actually save Aerith in this one, yet (don’t tell me if you know, though i doubt the game even gets to that part? i can’t remember), but it’d be funny if you could save General Leo in an FF6 remake
i remember when that was the death FF fans cared about
they’re pretty heavily telegraphing that you’ll be able to bring her back in the third one
I just looked it up and that terra scenario is such a nothing that they’d almost be better served to cut it. or it could be reduced to like, the cutscene they end on after that ultros fight, terra and edgar and banon just chilling on their way back to narshe. that would fit with giving banon a bigger role. and they’d probably be tempted to just cut gau entirely.
no don’t cut gau give him an entire dragon quest monsters style spinoff game
d’you think they’d do an Aerith and call her Tina
I don’t like what they did to the touch me frogs
The split party narshe battle even ends with a boss battle against kefka and then free party selection as you quest for terra. Seems like the best place to cut it. That’s probably the best part of the game imo especially with all the secret scenes depending on party composition and getting shadow etc.
Also I have been thinking about TIME TO TRAVERSE as a concept ever since I played that one Wii rpg (last story?) and it took me like 3 mins of running from whatever shop I was in to get to a town’s exit, and it was just a single road. That was the time it took to run from a weapon shop past an Appropriate Number of Buildings to the town exit. Inexcusable in a snes rpg and even most pre-rendered ones. I never actually played more than that, it wasn’t mine. But if you told me “getting around in a 3d game takes three times as long as top down 2d” as a rule of thumb I would believe you. I am not sure why we as a culture (gamers) should allow a remake of a Super Nintendo game to actually take three times longer to complete just because we ruin 2d architectural interior/exterior compression and have regard for “human proportions” and think “sprint shoes look silly in 3d”
This is why the trials of mana remake is pretty cool IMO. Afaik they don’t copy the original 2d layouts completely, but there is a surprising amount of fidelity wrt scale and level design and stuff. Granted the rest of the game is pretty mediocre but still. It can be done.
When people say they want to see FF6 get the FF7 Remake treatment, they just mean the lavishness and scope of production, not the uh baffling injection of timelines, “whispers,” fate, etc., I assume
no we want trenchcoat donald duck to show up in part 3 and tell cyan he can revive his kid by using the regularis novacruxis
I want to see Gau become radicalized after witnessing the destruction wrought by industrial society.
I don’t even particularly want them to mess with the battle system either. Just give it more Graphics
if vigour does anything i’ll spit chips

Despite
-
Teasing several different ultimately inconsequential avenues to completely derail the existing plot as an immediately inconsequential psuedo-fakeout
-
Being annoying to navigate. Forcing you to use the sniffy chocobo controls around a load of bottleneck jump points.
-
Having probably the worst chicken wrangling side quest I can remember. Why don’t more games have novelty side quests where you back into the camera slowly for extended periods?
-
Repeatedly making you fight extremely annoying jellyfish that fly, petrify your party while auto dodging 95% of all attacks
The fact it’s a Mystic Ruins tribute (overworld theme included) with the Ancients as the Echidna almost redeems it
Cid shows up early, looking more like Michael Bhien and sounding more like Scotty Moore
Very funny that both this and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth involve riding a segway around a digital Hawaii, both released in the span of 2 months. I got to Costa del Sol and I was like “oh I guess I’m doing this again”
