The marketing strategy they’re taking so far worries me. Should I be worried? Shun’ei sucks. Benimaru’s new look seems kinda cool tho
i just want the return of leopard print benimaru (2k3/xi), that outfit was hot
I had forgotten I was still subscribed to Cross Counter after the last bit of drama and saw it was live yesterday so I tapped on it and didn’t understand anything they were talking about so I read the description and noped way the fuck out of there
I’m still in mourning over Mike Ross’ departure because I liked watching SFV being played a lot more than touching the thing myself
Mike Ross is still around, just mostly streaming Tekken, Guilty Gear, and Dota 2 on Twitch
my memories of New Generation are mostly that i would play it in arcades, but almost always alone. no one i knew was interested in the game, so even though i enjoyed its aesthetics and allowed the other characters to grow on me a bit, Alpha and the Vs. series was where everyone’s attention seemed to be.
which i also enjoyed, and so i was ok with it.
i like this history because it’s a good reminder of what a weird and unsure time that was in games. the narrative that 3rd Strike is “the best” is so commonplace now, but i never heard anyone talk about the game when it released. i think i didn’t even really get into the game until i pirated a DC copy of it. and even then, still had no one to play with lol.
3S didn’t hit me til i spent much of '04-'05 watching tokyo regulars grinding it
soon as was out of country i insisted on actually learning it some, and i feel like its reputational ascendancy was happening at about the same time
daigo full parry cemented late-period 3s
100%
i remember me and my friends playing a pirate copy of new generation/giant impact on dreamcast, and because we had no manual or any other way of getting info on fiighting games, we didn’t even know that parrying was a thing.
And it’s a really hard experience to spend years of your life on something and watch it fail, living up to no one’s expectations.
i haven’t read that street fighter 3 article yet because i am not emotionally prepared.
what an incredible piece of human art.
i was back on the horse for a few weeks but have since returned to not playing fighting games because i think, for me, playing them regularly frustrates more than enriches. more power to you, online warriors.
best thing about that port was the slowmo settings in training mode
has a fightman ever included such a useful tool again?
I think Smash has similar tools in the base game which can aid execution practice.
Skullgirls has slomo settings in training mode.
