The assassin is old enough I need to track down a way to watch it.
you have pain&gain on your list, that makes up for anything, donāt worry.
⦠though we both know that the Transfomers-series beats that in the bad taste race for glory anytime, any day.
I liked Pain and Gain at the time but with distance the combination of Bay, Marky, and Your Republican Friend The Rock means it should probably be put in a landfill like ET.
This is absolutely on my list as a cleanser to every shitty Judd Apatow manbaby movie, and also because the end credit song kicking in is fucking perfect and that song is perfect.
Iām gonna be honest: You might hate it! I remember you were watching all the criterion series a while back, Iām not sure how many other Hou Hsiao-hsien movies are included in that, but he is like⦠very subdued in the way the movies are paced and this one is no different. Except itās also a deeply mannered period piece with a plot that is almost impossible to follow. I really like his āwatching paint dryā aesthetic but I admit this is an acquired taste. Although, in this one the costumes and set design are so incredible that it might hold interest for those reasons alone.
On the other hand, donāt want to spoil too much but (for me at least)
this definitely applies to this movie in an incredible way. Itās such an amazing release of tension at the end, I donāt think Iāve ever experienced anything like it in a movie theater before. Iāve tried to listen to the song on its own and it isnāt quite the same, you need those two plus hours of people politely talking to one another about the mysteries of the self and feudal inter-state relations for it to hit as hard.
Itās hard to tell if there arenāt many things I like being made or if itās just gotten harder to feel strongly about things
oh yeah thatās a good one nobodyās mentioned
i watched logan a few weeks ago, was surprised how good it is
I love Trash Humpers, a movie so tied to weird VHS aesthetics, being on DVD. I watched a digital copy of it. Itās a thing. I wouldnāt put it on my list, but only because it might be pure nightmare fuel.
Its one of those things that so many people have told me that they strongly associate with me, that Iām actually afraid to check it out lest I learn some horrible truth about myself.
I donāt think you have to worry too much about that. At least to me, it mostly played like a weird found footage thing, where you are watching this strange world you arenāt a part of, but are kind fascinated even exists, which is why people might be reminded of you, as it seems like something you would watch, but not something you would be, if that makes sense.
Ok! that sounds about right and much safer.

The Impossible would probably be torn to shreds by todayās āwokeā internet. But as a fairly realistic take on a natural disaster (Tsunami): I found it to be a harrowing viewing experience, back in 2012.
*Also, I was in Japan during that Tsunami. It was the first time I heard about world bad news like that, via foreign news TV. I was eating breakfast with a family in small town Japan. And immediately contacted my Japanese teacher in the states (he was married to a Thai woman, whom I knew quite well) to ask if her family and friends were ok (some friends were not). So Iām a bit attached to the event.
