this one is my favorite
Grab attacks are asstrash. in Bloodborne they undermine the regain mechanic and in Sekiro theyâre the one perilous attack that has no counter, so they undermine all the dang mechanics
and theyâre always so fast and have such high priority. You might as well throw a QTE at me
I didnât learn to parry consistently until after Madame Butterfly, so I donât think thatâs exactly itâŚ
One thing Sekiro did thatâs radically different from previous games (which makes me not consider the protagonist to be a superfast glass cannon) is make blocking 100% effective vs health damage, so I could play conservatively, barely parrying, for the first third of the game without feeling like I had to âgit gudâ or whatever.
Really, thatâs what made Sekiro feel so different from say⌠Bloodborne. Bloodborne, youâre forced into this super fast always in the fray attack-and-dodge play style but I could just chill out and lean on blocking and exploiting openings as I noticed them.
Anyway, grab attacks are good.
You can parry most grabs because Sekiro is the one armed wolf
no you can deflect exactly 1 which is the one the poisoned cannon ladies use, aka the worst one
i otherwise completely agree with your assessment of Sekiroâs combat
although i still am not sure it was taught very well lol
iâm the idiot that likes patches and plays along with his old death pit scheme every time for old times sake
wait really?? I need to play more Sekiro!
ah right, you can parry any non-perilous grab attacks, which are used by the cannon ladies and a few other enemies.
For the perilous ones, its one of two attack types you have to dodge/jump away from instead of just blocking
i donât mean to burble up at u from the Well Actually but the cannon ladies do a perilous grab, and itâs the only perilous grab you can deflect
and that said, itâs true you can jump or dodge away but my point was, you can counter the other kinds of perilous attacks in specific ways that immediately benefit you but grabs just mean âget the fuck out of thereâ. And i do not care for it, in part because they hit like a truck. Maybe just bitter from said cannon ladies fight, and shit like the ogre suplex and the guardian apeâs leaping grab. They feel cheap. Your timing has to be MUCH more immediate than it does for a Mikiri counter or jump and you get punished much harder
the immediate benefit of not being grabbed is freedom. freedom to stab someone in their recovery animation (or was it? been a while)
Okay, since it was mentioned, I gotta praise the Guardian Ape fight. Thatâs one of the best bosses From has ever done imo. Itâs a fun fight with an incredible presentation. The suspense that immediately pops up when you think you kill that thing, and then what happens nextâŚ
and then later
Youâre right about the details
my memory is swiss cheese, so take my specific memories with a grain of salt
and the later fight is also fun and completely reasonable to do once you try. THAT is the level of âahaha got you!!â that i want from From
i loved that i expected the guardian ape to throw poop at me, but didnât expect him to fucking slam dunk it on me, or cropdust me with farts in this apparently serious game
Pretty sure the centipedes exist to make sure you know how to parry from that point forward. They seem crazy aggressive but their rhythm is perfect for practicing.
Easily the exact point where it all clicked.
I thought it was supposed to be a prequel.
I have heard itâs like a port of a VR prequel game that came out a year ago.
No, the VR version came out in 2016. I might be getting things mixed up but I think this game is not very good. Anyway, itâs weird that youâre running around with sword and shield in a place that has elevators and stuff. Remnant was Dark Souls with guns and for this they removed the guns and so youâre left withâŚ?
no! itâs a video game!
