Fading Brakelight Obscurity III - Green-Orange-Checkered Edizione

well, the throttle pedal mod is still okay, I’ll email the manufacturer and see if they’re willing to help me with the other, though obviously my confidence in their product is… compromised. It does add a satisfying little bit of resistance to the accelerator that it’s otherwise missing

OTOH my shifter arrived and wow, having an H-shifter really is a game changer, I don’t know how but I feel much more in tune with how the car is behaving than I did trying to do manual with flappy paddles

it is testing the limits of my wheel stand, as it’s only got two upright metal shafts and so the horizontal stability isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough to do shifts reasonably quickly and precisely. sequential mode is much more stiff and so might be a little difficult to use with this setup, but I suspect I rarely will

also I uh discovered that Playground Games quietly updated the ‘fixed issues’ doc for Horizon 5 with the note that the crashing bug was fixed in a Fanatec driver update, not in the game, and apparently the Fanatec updater is uh, not working? so you have to go to their website and find the driver updater to get the one that doesn’t crash the game periodically, crossing my fingers this means I can finally play this game more than one race at a time!

UPDATE: I put a good few hours into FH5 with the driver updated to the latest and it didn’t crash once, hallelujah

tbh ignore this “end of the world” label on this, this isn’t the builder’s intent

Set to 24h NĂźrburgring footage?

No, Thank YOU, Sir!

And to top it off, the transition of track 1 to 2, as well from 2 to 3 is set as such to take place during a Code 80 segment? (Stealth edit: from 3 to 4 as well … superstealth-edit: didn’t happen for a few later ones, not enough drivers mistakes, eehhh :smirk: )

:tronyell:

gonna hand in my Eurobeat Anime MV badge and clear my desk, rarely have i seen marketing $$$ being funneled by the fun-killing fortress of bean counters in such a bold fashion.

Hell, it’s even part deux!

this is what I wanted out of the FIA hypercar category: race teams taking a race car and slapping an VIN and plates on it to call it a “road” car.

Hmm. Never got around to playing, but the previous game(s?) in this series seemed like an intriguing mix of weird budget shelf walmart game / very impressive seamless environment / whiff of 90s sega arcade goofiness (made up physics, exagerated + canned sand bog-down animations, big waypoint timers, etc.) / less draining mountain-dew vibe energy than your typical contemporary non-sim drive-em-up.

Like if you squint just right, could almost imagine this as an ambitious but failed Lindbergh-era $5/play experiment or something.

I’d like to give the new one a try.

here’s your chance to do so.
Just remember to wrap it in SB colors to help with Felix’es bills!

Seemingly not actually announced yet, but Logitech’s got a page up for their new direct-drive wheel. Arguably the first completely new design from them in like over 15 years. Interesting.

Pictures show it bundled with a table clamp which I guess would suggest it’ll be in the same ~5+nm power range as the CSL-DD.

Fuck. I’m starting to hate Logitech, but they can probably actually meet demand with this. So I’m interested.

hmmm…multi-platform force feedback wheel…crikey. might have to jump on this one. it will probably be expensive, right?

$1k ballpark

looks like the page now says 11nm? the video also references an active cooling fan, so this is definitely not quite going to be a CSL DD competitor on price or performance
