Nothing of such announced, only the 3 consoles. playstation, xbox, switch
Sounds like they made the gameplay match the aesthetic. They really should have a “hardcore” and a “casual” mode and keep the leaderboards separated for the two. On the one hand, I don’t want someone missing out on this because the game is a lot more technical than it appears on the surface. On the other hand, I suspect I would prefer the more realistic and unforgiving handling model in place before the update (I have not played the update yet).
Hmmm… I am not in favor of that solution at all if you excuse my boldness here.
BTW, if you have the game and haven’t gotten the update, try to keep that version separate or something. I wish I could have that version back just for the same of keep on trying it.
BIG rantive introspection about gameplay in general... probably just another one
Probably mentioning a book that everyone interprets as the “ultra alpha male” book, but in my opinion is all about the “ultimate beta (period)”, Hagakure, “it’s bad when a thing becomes 2”.
In more engineering terms, that’s adding complexity.
From my personal point of view the most absolute base, essence if you will, if games is rules.
Either we created them inspired by nature, or they exist in nature and we explain them and define them creating the rules in the process without even noticing (yes, I am “assuming” and stating all human thought works by “games”).
That being in games by and for humans, it becomes more like politics. Compromise is the key. That compromise is a stab in the dark to please everyone most of the times. But that exist.
I.E. of BAD compromising is Dark Souls II. Ok, they got it a bit wrong when they first launched but you can still accept it for what it is. They did a compromise on a lower scale of difficulty and kinda missed the stop. Good try guys. But the HD version[0] is an aberration created by their own insecurities. They made it “harder” on a broken engine, all the level design stopped making sense, and they are hardly challenges to overcome but more like road blocks you have to get a bigger truck to smash.
It is no longer a matter of learning more about the engine (I think people call it “world” in this forum), it’s a matter of getting bigger numbers and having your choices cut and focused on “where you are supposed to go”.
The same happened with the game. They “broke” into the “indie casual” pressure, and “accessibility”. The game was NOT inaccessible. Cars had (and still have but much less evident) tiers.
You are playing the game in career or something, you can’t do with your “most favorite precious car ever”, but you still have options that would define the kind of player you are. Are you the guy that will cross a swamp of difficulties to get what you want how you want it? Or are you the player that plays smart and chooses the right weapon for your level of skill?
There’s options and players have feelings toward resulting from those options. That is in a very basic level… is aesthetics. I’m not saying they lost all aesthetics but… they lost a big piece of their gameplay aesthetic value. THAT… I think it is the worst you can do for a game because that’s the UNIQUE thing about interaction pieces that no other medium has.
[0] please stop calling it “Scholar of the First Sin Edition” cause it’s not the only Sotfs version. The HD version only has SOTFS, but the original PS3/X360/PC release had all the content separate and a SOTFS edition. Please don’t make me make photos of my X360 and PS3 2nd hand boxes. BTW, I got the “vanilla” version on PC too.
My dumb outsider opinion as someone who has zero interest in dedicated rally games is that rally is a weird niche of the racing genre, and technical rally seems like it would be an even smaller audience. Now imagine being an indie studio who needs to sell copies of a $30 game to stay open. Do you go with the niche or do you limit your audience further and go with the niche niche?
As someone who flunked out of indie software development by just making shit that I wanted and then having no one buy it, I don’t blame the studio for trying to make a game people will actually buy, or trying to make the gameplay look as inviting as its visuals.
I understand your frustration with the game design, and I have similar issues with other games, but your tone just reads as “I’m angry this studio is trying to stay open” and seems to imply that either your purchase is worth more than casuals’ purchases when it really doesn’t.
Exactly.
It’s like someone made a game with the presentation of Outrun and the driving model of Gran Turismo. I, for one, love the hell out of that, but I definitely understand them reigning it in.
I really thought I got that far, but they had the balance.
Sales were not bad in the PC stores (not amazing either) but it was more than enough to create a community of people coming, going, and coming back later.
The difference in itself is not that major to make a huge difference in the same because the base is exactly the same. They have a fuckton of values to adjust on the menus (steering, throttle, break sensibilities and deadzones, steering assist, counter steering factor from 0 > 200%).
You could start strong with those and progress if you ever wanted.
I really hoped I was able to communicate that if they actually did what you just described, I could be ok and comfortable with it while leaving it behind my back.
But what they did was simply change the torque curve.
I can’t identify if there was one curve from which they would multiply the other cars curves… sounded like that. Sure game design takes a bunch of iterations, simplifying it that way is a way around to make quick changes to the game.
The game didn’t necessarily became more “playable”, because now you don’t have enough torque to save a corner you took with too much speed i.e. (that’s a thing I do a lot).
It simply became less interesting. Lost aesthetic value.
Am I mad? Sure I payed for one game and now I have another without any visible chance to go back to what I had and wouldn’t mind to play for a few more years. You bet I am mad.
But I don’t think I am being unreasonable.
I misunderstood that this game was in early access. I guess the complaints are more justified if the game actually came out formally beforehand, but it still feels a bit disproportionate to me.
Honestly pretty optimistic that this will be good times
first time i’ve heard of this, and reading milestone’s name makes me look forward to this already - they know how to do proper games, kinda trust them to be nerdy enough to try and seriously get hot wheel drifting right.
This vs Forza Horizon 5, FIGHT!
car for the apocalyse, saving your date at the end of the world. Swoon~~~~
