Fading Brakelight Obscurity II - Championship Edition (Part 1)

Man, GT4 was such an innocent(i) game, in hindsight.

Even if i am still salty about the FIA-isation of legendary tracks like Grand Valley ( :rage: ), otoh they gave you a Ford Model T and the Nürburgring (nothing like stalling/grinding to a halt on Nür’s hills w/ that!) , or special HUD bits for the Prius, which was a cool move. GT6 did lose that kind of mojo imho.

And yeah, tuning that tiny euroboxes to race serious cars was a blast.

Vitz!

the most interesting, modern take on Prototypes/Sportscars for a while has been unveilled today:

… and I like how ballsy that entry looks!
Eliminating the rear wing (and if we’re honest, the whole rear deck is a wing shape? :smirk:) on paper sounds like a ridiculous idea, but it must be something they’ve looked at properly and come away convinced that it gives them an advantage in a BoP-formula … badass, to say the least!

Look at it overtake historic cars the competition:

Yeah GT4 is still the series high point in my mind.
I had some real fun with 6’s online challenges but nothing beats 4 so far.

historic Peugeots, to be more correct. Ypu can spot some of them in the first of multiple posts here:

One limitation of the CarX (vehicle physics simulation plugin) version BEWARE uses is that it limits vehicle weight to 8000kg max and, even more importantly, does not work with Unity3D versions above the long outdated v5.5.
The good news is that I purchased VPP physics, so this is the last version of BEWARE using CarX.

VPP allows me to move to the more recent Unity3D versions and offers, among many other improvements, controller and steering wheel (with FFB) support out of the box.
I’ve already done some testing and BEWARE-work with it, and it feels fantastic!

So the next step for BEWARE, which I’m immensely looking forward to, is merging all the regions together and integrating the new physics - this is the plan for the next update.

(stealth edit: gotta hand in my badge and my 323 to Dom: that’s the W8, not W12 vector!)
Vector W8 buddies hanging out w/ Jon, whose W8 broke down again… so Jon’s using his daily now.

They are simpler than the current cars because a lot of the small components have been removed…

It features a ground effect floor design and much simpler wings to ensure that much more of its downforce comes from areas of the car that are not affected by following a rival closely.

I think this means the cars will be less disadvantaged specifically while chasing rivals through corners.

looks suspiciously like the Indycar current gen-move, which worked wonders if you consider the current season… thing is, Indy has been running great w/ that for a few years by now iirc?
Anyway, finally they have understood something needs to be made, a bit of a shame that they switch exactly when the current gen has hit its stride, re constructors-3rd-place championship last year.

Finally moving to proper rim size has been a long shot in the coming… a rim shot, so to speak :smirk:.

What’s a bit odd is the winglet-thing they have towering over the front wheels, supposedly trying to alleviate dirty air coming off the front wheels, and those sidepod louvres to the back of the car… will be interesting to see the different interpretations.

Yeah it will be interesting.

This is an analysis of how the 2022 spec cars could lead to different outcomes in race situations from the last few years.

Oh yeah, I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here but my parents imported a right-hand drive Delica to camp in and it got here last week. I might post pics once they’ve finished setting it up. My brother was furious that our parents got to import a right-hand drive vehicle before he did.

those are really popular here (or they were like 10 years ago) for some reason, I find them comically stressful to have on these roads
