Every Extend Extra! Extra! (News Thread)

I initially read “ONE MAN AGAINST AN EMPIRE / THE LEGEND BEGINS / THE GREAT MACHINE AWAKENS / TRAPPED IN THE REALM OF DARKNESS” as some poem they’d put in the descriptions as some kind of ARG thing and now I’m sad it isn’t that

it’s kind of horseshit for the Daggerfall tagline to be “THE GREAT MACHINE AWAKENS” when the only time the Numidium actually shows up is a few vague sketches in the ending story time snippet.

This caused me to read like 15 UESP wiki pages just now.

if it’s the same as it was back in 07 or 08, the two major server mods are Shrub, which is the wacky casual mod where a lot of servers save XP and you can mix class unlocks and get dumb shit like soliders running around with flamethrowers and medic buff needles (note: I don’t recommend playing soldier if FF is on) and then there was the major competitive server mod, which even though it’s geared towards comp play, has a ton of visual, balance and QOL fixes for the game because oh lord I need my hitsounds or I feel naked

I also half-seriously recommend playing on max life servers because suddenly only having 8-15 respawns makes maps go by faster (well, sometimes) as the default timer per map is 30 minutes and it teaches/forces you to learn good play

or, you know, just go rambo medic and beg your field ops for ammo

RTCW and ET or more are less the great granddaddies of the modern wave of hero shooters so if you like those but want less rigid role or character definitions and want a faster game (in the micro at least, not so much the macro), yes, go back to this

don’t forget to make binds to cap your fps to get those sweet long jumps and momentum from Q3 rounding errors

it’s me, I’m the Splash Damage mark

may the successor to Brink and Dirty Bomb come swiftly

not Quake Wars, the gunplay in that felt like shit, but I can forgive that because of the “Strogg Strogg Strogg!” voiceline

It would be cool if, instead of making this ten thousand dollar toy, they made a version of this game where the characters actually look like this

nostalgic for some early esports commentator on shoutcast sending me annoyed dms on irc because i kept spamming the “I’m an engineer!” voice clip during some vanilla rtcw tourney game

Quake wars demo had this huge vehicle someone had to drive to an objective and I remember taking great joy in driving it around defenses and through places it shouldn’t have gone.

it’s called ffxiv, even the GOOCH said so

i used to feel bad that Sakaguchi was seemingly run out of Square for making some costly missteps (even though these missteps ruled, sorry) but building dioramas and playing FFXIV in Hawaii seems like he won in the end

now he just needs to join the fc

If anyone tries this out, I’d be curious to know whether the new version is different enough to be worth revisiting (and I guess repurchasing). They hint that it’s been significantly expanded but I guess they rightly don’t want to go into detail to avoid revealing surprises.

Big Month for isometric action games with roguelike elements says the 2D STG fan ironically.

There’s a new GBA Tetris.

I really like the Stanley Parable, but one of the things I really like about it is that it more or less exhaustively catalogs the methods for 4th wall breaking in videogames as a sort of comment on how pointless it is to do that just for showboating theatrics. Ladling a whole huge helping of “new content” on top of it seems like an exercise in missing the point.

As an example, I just saw a streamer hit the art game path, and after they let the baby die the narrator decided to see if you’d enjoy playing a different game than Stanley Parable.

It follows guideline rules, so all spins, kicks and setups should work as expected.

I used to be a proponent of SRS but years of torment in the Puyo Tetris matchup have made me a TGM2 fan
