Every Extend Extra! Extra! (News Thread)

the countdown ends immediately after what remains of street fighter’s capcom cup tournament this year, so people are assuming this is SF6 related.

Okay

(But you’re probably right and I’m just assuming the worst because we live in hell)

New RPG Maker announced that uses unity instead of the previous javascript + webgl backend.
Very interested to see how this turns out given that unity doesn’t have great 2d support in the first place. Apparently the command system will still be avaliable, not sure how that’s going to be integrated with the existing unity UI. Going off of the screenshots it seems to have its own custom UI so maybe there’s not access to the standard unity ui in the first place?
It would be really nice to have easy access to rpgmaker database functionality from unity and it looks like this is also releasing as a unity asset store extension, so it might end up being useful for a lot of different workflows.

I’m really curious to see what comes out of those Remington documents released during the Sandy Hook trial regard to product placement in video games.

If the upgrade is free why is it a separate license at all?

The entire PS5 upgrade system is nonsensical

Yes, this is a sequel to an old Neo-Geo arcade game.

To expand on this now that I’m not in a waiting room and have my PS5 podcast notes in front of me:

  • For digital PS4 games:
    • Some PS5 upgrades are free DLC
    • Some upgrades are free but listed as separate binaries on the PS Store, and your existing license extended to that binary, but it manually needs to be added to your library
    • Some upgrades are paid DLC (Sony prestige titles mainly)
    • Some upgrades are full-price remasters for PS5
    • Some upgrades are free, but only for deluxe/definitive editions of games
    • None of this is ever explained to you, and very little of it is exposed through the PS5 UI
  • For physical titles:
    • PS5 free upgrades are “technically” a DLC purchase for $0.00 which grants you a download license of the PS5 version with the explicit requirement that the disc must be in the drive when played
    • You can still buy a download license at full price separately which effectively unlocks the disc requirement to play it. These are the same binary.

(I don’t own any physical games with paid upgrades so I can’t document how those work. It’s probably a disaster too.)
