I got the “temporary unlimited FP flask” and tried out the infinite laser on Morgott, which, well, folks… it works. Sort of regret not trying to fight him normally first but yeah that’s probably more of a thing to pull out if I get bored huh
yeah but you only get one of them earlyish I think
Been thinking about it and Azur’s Death Ray is maybe the first thing that’s felt a bit like cheating in this game? There’s a lot of stuff like Mimic Ash which really improves your odds with extra damage and tanking, but they’re not win buttons. Chugging the infinite FP potion and shooting a laser that one shots a boss sort of feels like it wasn’t meant to be there. Although it’s not like they’ve patched it out! I mean they must know, right? What is up with the balance in this game???
I don’t think they’re going to patch anything that isn’t broken in pvp. is the laser broken in pvp? I doubt it, but I have no idea, I blow at pvp in these games and never do it anyway. maybe they’ll nerf the unlimited fp tear or something. if they nerf anything for single player it should be the mimic ash. maybe it’s not quite a free win button, but they went and made like 100 ashes for this game and no one bothers with any of them after you unlock the mimic
With a lot of required bosses I found it difficult to land, which frustrated me cuz it meant I had to remember how to play the game
In co-op it never really stops being useful though, shit rocks
I still use nightmaiden and swordmistress over the mimic tear on occasion
the brass shield is in a similar situation to the mimic ash, now that I think about it. it’s just a shield, but there’s no reason to use any other shield. maybe turtle shield for the stam regen
Hm I should level those guys and try ‘em out. I think the thing is even if I miss with Azur I still have like… moonveil or darkmoon greatsword and their wildly powerful weapon arts to fall back on, plus good summons, tons of other good spells, turning into the moon and exploding, etc. it’s just wild how much easier the game got for me around Gelmir/Lyndell. It’s still not easy but I’m first trying a considerable number of bosses
yeah I am running a pretty similar loadout (I spread my points around so I can’t actually cast comet azur yet but I’m not in a hurry) and pretty happy with my options
Bastard’s stars (which you can make from the essence of the boss that gates moonlight) is also pretty good for a dex/int blunt weapon, it fucks up the capital knights pretty well
I’ve been using that on stone enemies that punish you for non-strike attacks. SUPER nice to have an int scaling strike weapon!
it’s funny how “No Skill” is by far the most desirable ability to have on a shield because being able to use your weapons L2 without two handing is vastly more convenient than shield bashes
that was the only art of war I actually bought all game
erdtree greatshield + fire’s deadly sin lets you shoot lasers at your enemies with no fp cost, and spamming that skill will block/parry most damage that may come your way. Pair it with bestial vitality to neutralize health loss from fds. More broken than any other shield imo.
Also man having just finished the main stuff in Lyndell I want to say that place rules. The double reveal at the beginning is fucking insanely sick and Miyazaki is a monster. You think this vista is pretty cool huh? Fuck you I can do even better check this shit out. The only problem is going from that to “generic snow area” feels like a bit of a let down
the snow area has an extremely gorgeous bridge to make up for it but admittedly that’s right when I decided to put the game down for a week after playing it for like six hours a day
It… Actually is the best mid-shield in the game.
In terms of stamina spent with blocks.
Give it the “stronger shield” AoW and bosses attacks bounce of it… Not too heavy, accessible earlier, and you can even put a parry on it.
You really can’t go “righ-er” for a mid shield. Just prettier.
It has a very different coat on it but still resent this game for having lawnmower ism of do everything (because there is no telling if the reward is extremely important.)
It occasionally lets me play Souls and I really like those parts.
I’ve been up late the last few nights trying to complete some questlines I never got around to. I did a couple quests that I never could have found ordinarily because my path of exploration took me to the crucial spots in the wrong order. The worst of these is probably the Millicent questline, IMO. At least the Ranni quest is pretty explicit about what you should be doing and where you should be going.
I’m curious whether the strict requirements for unlocking the quests are due to Fromsoft’s desire to make them cryptic and “rare” to unlock, or because they want people to be sharing secrets online like playground videogame rumors used to get traded around in the past, or because they genuinely think people will explore and hit these places in the correct order.
I am doubtful that they could have made any accurate guesses about the order anyone would encounter a quest that passes through Caelid–Caelid is so erratic in its difficulty that I get the sense a lot of people are skipping big chunks of it and coming back after Altus to complete it. I did quite a lot of Caelid before moving to Altus, but there were spots with a lot of dragons and/or rot in them that I never fully expored. Re: the quest I just advanced tonight–I actually did not come back until very late in the game because killing Millcent when she invades is so difficult that I never got past her to Commander O’Neil until I was so overleveled and rich with preserving boluses that both those fights were trivial to me.
Ok, feeling pretty confident I swept the Liurnia of the Lakes part pretty well (except that south western rise part… Driving me a bit insane that).
Raya Lucaria is also pretty much done.
Rather love that if you start going for secret paths and rooftops on that “dungeon” it very nearly doubles in size… Leaving with the main path as a boring linear and very “hand holding” progression.
I guess that rot area is what I’m going for next.
i think most of the important things have notes and maps telling you about them which you can get from merchants and such, but still, you have to happen upon those
Raya Lucaria is so Yharnam i caught myself several times hitting L1 expecting a transformation combo
