Elden Ring (Part 1)

If you beat Rykard it locks you out of completing the manor quests

That happens no matter how you go through the manor I think but doing the assassinations means you get to him faster

Beyond that I think it’s mostly the same

Any thoughts which is cooler, fighting Rykard without doing the hits or doing the hits to eventually fight Rykard?

Doing the hits is slightly novel and, provided you have all those areas unlocked already much, much shorter

The manor is a cool dungeon though, was fun going through it after I’d whacked Rykard

you probably unlock the hits before you unlock the ability to complete them all, but you do get a bunch of gear for doing the hits. I did the volcano manor dungeon, then did the hits, then killed rykard

Jarburg? Seriously?

It is official, FromSoft run out of ideas.

You take that back, Jarburg is the best location in the game

you gotta watch out for the fearsome Jarvfjallet though

Can’t do a thing here. Just… Not disturb the jar people. Maybe I came here too soon?

Also… How do they fit into those doors?

There’s a Jarvfjallet in No Rangers Allowed right now, how did you know?

The jars have only just settled in Jarburg. It isn’t really a place with things to do, its just a place to speculate on the rich history of pot goblins.

That they have people’s pulped remains inside them, that somehow are maintained fresh, giving these pots some kind of satience, and all that might be close to a reference on how ancient cultures used pots to burry people but they somehow became ghosts or were even used to burry people alive?

And that Alexander watched them from a distance, wistful. For some reason, he couldn’t return to his home.

So sad I never really encountered Alexander before the Radahn fight. He showed up in a tunnel once hyped about the festival, but that was the only time I’ve seen him outside the gameplay demo. No funny potsmans for me :((

Cause he would break if he would fall from that cliff.
Btw almost every only reacted to me in some shock over me picking up the flowers they were appreciating. But one of then actually attacked me after I picked up a fresh piece of cracked pot.

Did I stole it’s parent from it?

i looked on the torturous form of my housemate’s office chair… and i knew, in my blood

Think I’m near the end now. Unfortunately I think I screwed myself out of doing the volcano manor quests because I set the Erdtree on fire before completing even the first one. Oh well!! That’s what new game plus will be for I suppose.

I’m currently rollin around the far north. The boss that has most recently delighted me is the Fire Giant. I adore how his appearance confirms and explains so many things about the material culture of the southern lands–everything from the giant faces on the Godskin folks to the reason why all the giants are skinless and missing a huge chunk of something out of their middles. I was so impressed by this cryptic continuity between so many different parts of the game! It adds a certain solemn logic to all this gross body horror stuff. “Oh, of course X is like that. A major artisanal craft resource in this universe is the magicked corpses of two-faced giants who barf fire out of their bellies and have a third eye.”

Can’t decide whether I should fuck around and keep doing all sorts of side dungeons or whether I should hurry to the end of the game. I am currently 93 and am leveling extremely slowly because I want to stay within level range of my coworkers. One of them read the matchmaking formula to me out loud (he mentioned weapons can affect it??) and it was so complicated I immediately turned my brain off and said “well 93 is good enough for me!!” and so far frankly it has been. I have not leveled up in hours. I have a lot of maxed out summons now though, and I have some extremely nice weapons!
