Elden Ring (Part 1)

sekiro’s definitely the better game but I think elden ring is kinda neat as a greatest hits anthology game, just iterating on a bunch of things from the past

should made my character a Robert’s Dad cosplay

I bet these games take place in the same world, so that would be appropriate.

Cleared Nokron, Nameless Eternal City and Nokstella today and I am invincible. Nobody can defeat my elite gamer strats (incredibly min-maxed build with literally every available cheese)

Also I have so many goddamn lore questions? What are the eternal cities about? Who’s the big dead guy stuck in the tree in Nameless Eternal City? What’s the deal with the Crimson Rot? Who are those weird Godskin guys and whose skin are they wearing?

Me too!! I have really been focusing those places down just out of pure curiosity. I killed Astel earlier. I think I still have more to do maybe, it’s hard to say because of how gigantic that part of the game is.

Also I just came by to say I really hope From never pulls a Sister Friede and Father Ariandel 3 phase full health bar boss fight again.

I haven’t even met that guy yet! I hoped out after the elevator out of Nokstella to poke at Mt Gelmir for a bit ( although I’m a bit stuck there)

hand it over, that thing, your lorepost.

this game has me so fucked up during finals. I can do nothing other than think about it and I am now going to go play it for at least an hour or maybe even two.

the lore in this game is so unspeakably dull and bland, though. I’m glad the real story is just what you do as a player and not whatever tedious dnd backstory george rr martin shoved in when he single handedly crafted this game

the ranni stuff is good, nothing else really jumps out at me in fairness

yeah, ranni has all these characters around her and her quest moves you through so much of the mainline events in seemless parallel. It’s clear that hers is like the true main content and critical lore path, at least from what I’ve experience so far.

but I am still extremely curious how the hated shit eater does or does not connect with this.

the detested coprophage doesn’t really tie in to anything else, he’s just the ‘let’s make everyone suffer’ ending route.

what a waste of a perfectly foul thing

actually, felix, idk if you know but it seems like the elden crap king is like the main villain from Path of Exile basically

May chaos take the world

It’s so funny that GRRM supposedly worked on this because like what did he do? So much of the lore I’ve encountered is clear Miyazaki stuff—he’s always clearly obsessed with rhythm in metaphor and all these repeated elements (trees, roots, fingers [they’re like roots for people!], rings [both trees and fingers have ‘em!], etc.). It’s like Bloodborne with blood and birth and stars. My guy loves a strained metaphor

i thought it was acknowledged that all he did was write about middle earth and what happened to the elden ring and set up the names of historical events

from what I have read, grrm wrote all of the backstory and characters before the elden ring was shattered, and miyazaki went and made them all into sick freaks with the shattering of the ring.

So, grrm wrote all of the proper fantasy noun soup

I’m happy to credit to GRRM the 60,000 names that begin with either C or M that are all like Caria, Caela, Caria, Carolla, Milena, Milequia, Calequia, Marolla, Mieva, Maeve, etc. all of whom are either places or people who either killed each other or were around when it happened. I could live without that
