IGN: You mentioned The Lands Between, which I think is an interesting name, because it’s not really a traditional name for a world, like Dark Souls’ Lordran, Dark Souls 2’s Drangleic and so forth. Can you explain the significance of The Lands Between as a setting for this game?
HM: We’re happy you picked up on that because The Lands Between is actually a name that was invented by George R.R. Martin himself
whoa hold the phone
so you’re telling me Martin came up with the concept of a land, which is in between things … in the middle of them if you will. like a middle-land. middle-terrain? just making sure cuz yeah it’s cool we’re getting away from traditions here
I’m not a fan of GRRM but I do like how he’s the opposite of Tolkien in that he has no interest in lore. Like fuck it, Essos and Westeros are just Essex and Sussex. The story structure of ASoIaF is the same as Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying, and Faulkner said that the human heart in conflict with itself is the only thing worth writing about i.e. not lore. Just gotta respect someone admitting they don’t care about naming fantasy locales.
George R. R. Martin talks Elden Ring in new interview: -His work on the game was done many years ago -He wrote the worldbuilding & characters -From would periodically show him enemy & graphic designs -He is excited for the final game :) pic.twitter.com/y5gUDvo2Hd
I keep wanting from to get closer to their king’s field roots, something grimy and claustrophobic and slow. instead they give me ninja gaiden and now zelda. I’m sure this will do it’s thing well enough, but I can only muster indifference
and the engine sure is showing it’s age.
on the plus side, the combat was easily the worst thing about breath of the wild; it can’t help but be the best part of souls of the wild
Feeling whiffs of Ubisoft, but I think From kinda has to be in that open world space now. People will love it no matter what. If it doesn’t offer decent accessibility options, I’m probably gonna skip.
