That hunter NPC named D is so funny the way everything he tells you as an introduction makes absolutely no sense to you at first.

Hilarious how the tell that you’re being invaded is that your horse suddenly disappears for no reason. In this case, in the middle of knee-deep toxic water

i love the different death screams depending on the way you die, i’m gonna keep saying this. the immolation scream is particularly blood-curdling

I really like this area. I had to approach the castle several times before I found the bonfire, and each run was a fun and tense experience.

The red area of the game in general is definitely my favorite so far. It’s basically Bloodborne DLC. I like how it just goes on and on. I think they could stand to be less generous with the bonfires there, to require even more frantic horse riding. At one point I was trying a different path to try to avoid some of the larger enemies and I ran right into a huge decaying dragon, boss music and all. And I love the big battle you stumble upon, even if it seems like too cheap a way to get souls.

I’m glad monsters killing NPCs is not permanent because I was once talking to someone in a shack about a quest and a giant werewolf thing bit him through the wall.

I’ve played this game for quite a few hours in the past few days and explored far and wide but I have yet to beat any “real” bosses.

there are a surprising number of subplots like this that you can develop! man it’s all so good

I have basically gorged myself on this game over the weekend like a few others here and I think I’m going to be at most about halfway through when I have to go back to work tomorrow

BTW a tip that there should probably be a tutorial for but I only figured out 20 hours in: if you’ve fully unfogged an area on the world map but still haven’t found the map item, look for the tiny little brown pillar icon. That’s where the map item is. If you don’t see it anywhere, it might be covered by a larger icon so make sure to zoom in.

This is a really nice way to put it. It’s packed… But at the same time… Not.
Let me try to explain my feelings on this. I just finished playing a great deal of these “open world” (personally call them sandbox but whatevs) and the thing is that those are much packed. So much in fact, and so much information on the maps that… Exploration is nothing more than a stupid grind. On top of that no sense of wonder caus every 5 steps you stop for yet another wonderous moment.

Elden Ring is not desperate to be filled with content. Smart design decision that end up in plenty of quality of content.
In here I have space to breath and really explore. Even after playing so many of those games recently and really developed personal methods to go along finding stuff instead of heading into the map guided by desire, wonder, or simple roll play.

And even when I played the network test, slap bang in the middle of a bunch of Assassin’s Creeds, I started getting a feeling and came to tell myself: “this is feeling… Is the same freedom and wonder as in Shadow of Colossus”.

That space to breath… That sense of scale that @Gate88 expressed earlier (but he might have meant something else).

Still I’ll insist that this sandbox made the FromSoft game less unique, but I’m not about to pass judgement if it is better or worst.
I will state though that they pretty much taught a good lesson to the big boys.

That “open worldness” doesn’t have to come with lack of thoughtful design, less mechanically sound basic gameplay, and definite… Absolutely 100% does not have to come without unique and properly worked out bosses.

Oh, do you mean the awful rot part where even the scenario bleeds when you swing a weapon at it?

I was teleported there at lvl20 by a fucking chest.
I was in panic running around everywhere unable to fast travel. Found like 3 or 4 graces, but I would only activate them and not rest due to panicness until I found out that I had to rest.

Just so the maiden lady could apear to say: So so sorry, I was testing you
