though I think they just shipped some barely working shaders for the DLC area at the last minute because the base game areas still run fine
oh hell yeah id play elden ring but only if it came with shadows of the empire debug mode
I donāt want to say itās unplayable because that makes me sound a particular way but itās kind of unplayable lol
Iām level 160 and have 99 strength what am I supposed to do with my runes at this point
macrame
Are you still on that same computer that was bugging out on the base game two years back?
that computer worked fine! and no
Wasnāt your horse invisible?
briefly
I rest my case
The co-op mod regularly has disappearing horses and sometimes double riders in the sky. Itās funny.
My mental process this week:
āHey, that Elden Ring DLC comes out this week, Iāve never played any From DLC but maybeā¦ā
āWait, isnāt it hidden behind some optional boss? I beat a bunch of those but⦠oh, it has a trophy let me see if I got it.ā
āā¦How the heck do you check playstation trophies online again?ā
āThis website that does that doesnāt list my Elden Ring info, I may have to turn on my PS5 and checkā
āā¦I didnāt start a new game +, did I? Fuck, let me load up the gameā
āDid I delete the game to save console space? I bought the PS4 disc so Iād have to download the PS5 version all over again if so and thatād takeā¦ā
āOkay my trophy list says I beat that boss and I didnāt delete the game, let me see about new game +ā¦ā
Game canāt connect due to lack of PS+, switching to offline mode
āMotherfuck, I keep forgetting about PS+ bullshit, well at least I didnāt start a new game +ā
āā¦I aināt playing this offline and I aināt paying an extra⦠$25 for 3 months? Maybe I can finish it in 30 days so only $10 extra. But yeah, not paying $50-65 for some DLC.ā
Anyways hope it is fun and Iāll catch up with yāall once it goes on sale a bit.
initial impressions: itās a little underwhelming to just pop out in the middle of an open world zone without a clear direction. and iām a little hesitant to play because i donāt want to run out of game. when i touched the withered arm and appeared in the weird little grassy box canyon, i felt a mild excitement, but more than that the hollow echoes of previous excitement. iām feeling the inability to let go despite diminishing returns that were the central thematic conceit of the past 15 years of this studioās demons souls remixes.
of the endgame characters (levels ranging 150-230) iāve brought into this, my first character, the int/arc build i put together with no prior knowledge of the game, is experiencing a little friction, but the mechanically optimized int and strength builds have steamrolled everything theyāve encountered. i wonder if there will be a dramatic increase in scaling or if the stat buffs you can get from collecting items are there for lower level characters (who have managed to beat mohg)
the corner of the shadow lands they drop you into is very pretty but also very brown and bloomy, which makes me think of demons souls original pitch as an oblivion killer. oblivion came out in 2006
elden ring was the game i played when i was cooped up in a shitty little house in the country in a state of perpetual low-level dissociation from chronic pain and social isolation. today i went rock climbing twice and saw a spectacular weather phenomenon in downtown chicago where moist air rolled in from the lake and formed dense clouds among the high rises and nowhere else. i saw a multitude of people, chatted with strangers, had dinner with a friend. i donāt think i need this now as much as i seemed to need it then, but itās certainly nice to have. maybe thereās some mind blowing stuff later on
buy hundreds of every smithing stone so you can upgrade and try out all of the endgame concept weapons, of course
this sure is more elden ring. Iām loving it so far. I hate to be āthat guyā but everything about this that Iāve played to this point has deep, heavy dark souls 2 vibes. I mean that extremely favorably.
dark souls 2 and bloodborne. itās just got a lot of that kinda stuff. if you felt like that was missing from elden ring (I did, for the latter at least), you will be satisfied by this DLC.
Incidentally, Dark Souls 2 probably bears the Souls seriesā closest resemblance to Elden Ring. ⦠Miyazaki agrees and in fact goes a step further. āIn regards to Dark Souls 2, I actually personally think this was a really great project for us, and I think without it, we wouldnāt have had a lot of the connections and a lot of the ideas that went forward and carried the rest of the series.ā
Ok I can play this now thanks to miracles does anyone know if itās a bad idea to play on new game plus
you still canāt toggle off the compass but at least they switched that eye searing bandai namco logo to nightmode
my understanding is that the difficulty scaling in the DLC isnāt affected by NG+ at all. and I donāt think itās really possible to be overleveled because they just made the base damage values significantly higher than what a 300+ level character could deal with. which makes sense because you get significantly diminishing returns at that point so you canāt really become that significantly stronger relative to anything. so the baseline is just above that and they give you a new set of baubles to collect in the DLC area that increase your damage dealt and negated. if youāre really worried about it being too easy then you donāt have to use them. my character is level 190 and I donāt find the difficulty lacking even using the stat boosting items.
bits of this are reminding me that one cool thing about dark souls 3 is that it has this entirely unique status effect where you have maggots crawling all over you and it slowly increases your poison or bleed buildup. itās really gross and uncomfortable and very well executed in terms of making you horrified by it. if I recall the only way cure it aside from letting it time out is to set yourself on fire. itās so awesome and honestly itās kind of baffling to me that they didnāt bring that back for elden ring. this might actually be my biggest complaint about the game.
