Elden Ring 2

So I put aside an hour earlier today to see if I could get this fight down enough to see if it is worth concentrating on or abandoning for at least the moment; I defeated her on the first attempt of the day. TBF I did look up if there was any way to avoid the opening attack of the second phase as I walked right into it every prior attempt (and still got caught be every non-opening version of it this battle) but I leaned more into jumping attacks this go around, broke her poise a good number of times and mimic me managed to survive until the final 10 or so seconds of the battle.

Unfortunately I did get infected with scarlet rot towards the back half of the fight and while I managed to sneak the final hit on her when we were both at low health (basically won a quick draw to see who’d die first) I had a single heal left that I used to hear her final words before succumbing myself. Felt somewhat appropriate, still picked up the 480k runes when I respawned nearby.

So yeah, kinda an unexpected way for that to go, I am pretty sure I’m retiring mimic tear after this for sure now as I feel with a few practice runs I could likely shred any enemy who isn’t Malenia-level dangerous with ease with its aid.

Also I climbed all the way back up before going “wait, I warped into here”. >_>

So the blood lord or whatever his name is is also now dead, which means I think I am out of lords to kill? This must mean the game is over, good job everyone drinks are on me…

…Huh, game doesn’t appear to be over. Makes sense as I didn’t explore at least half of the Giants place and I recall being asked to burn something. I guess onward still, perhaps there are still more lords who need to be clubbed to death~

So it took a week short of three months and just over 145 hours but god is slain and Elden Ring is beaten. It is legit a tremendous game but I hope from’s next one is closer in length to the typical Souls game.

Come forth, warriors, and bask in the glory of the Colosseums.

The Colosseums of Limgrave, Leyndell and Caelid will open their gates, allowing players to engage in battles such as duels, free-for-alls and team fights.

Prove your worth in Free Colosseum Update 1.08. Coming December 7.

I’m glad this is some kind of PVP thing so I don’t need to load the game up and get sucked in again just yet. Until they add the real DLC that doubles the size of the world.

I’m glad the PVP loving invaders are getting a new outlet right around the time I need to face that hero’s grave boss fight I’ve been putting off forever and will need summons to help with.

Is there any talk of improved netcode among this update…? As someone who ran 2/3rds of the game co-op I got very frustrated with the matchmaking a few months back

it’s not unreasonable to expect that to be updated since this is an online-focused update but who knows

I legit was wondering what all those colosseum-looking buildings were about as I could never figure out what the heck to do with them, now I know that the answer was nothing, they were just there for future DLC purposes.

I had hoped they would do something more interesting with those, but this was to be expected
There must be an audience for the pvp, so good for them I guess

I absolutely cannot wait to try out the mode that involves summons. Some of those spirit ashes are unbelievably annoying… I predict those fights will be VERY chaotic

3 on 3 with ashes would mean potentially 18 wolves.

I’m betting the summon ash fights are just for 1 on 1.

Six players with ashes is a thing, but wolves are useless in this mode.

So far I think I had the most fun with duels, shocked myself by winning a combat trial, and got massacred any time summon ashes were in play.

i’m loving the big free for all matches, they’re so chaotic. love watching 3 priests fill the arena with that one bullshit projectile incantation while two off model Gutses (named Gutss and BERSERK69) slam into each other

tried booting this up but apparently the latest development in the ongoing Microsoft Elite Luxury Model 2 series Controller Saga is the right stick is stuck to where the camera in 3d games is pointing down at my character birds eye view like

new favorite elden ring colosseum experience goes to the guy named Redmane Deserter in redmane solider armor summoning 3 identical redmane soldiers in a big chaotic free for all, i kept wasting big swings on his goddamn spirit ashes thinking they were him

builds seem to mostly be guts clones, mages, and the occasional bleed sickos, though faith builds pop up a lot more in FFA matches and seem to do really well with all the big aoes and dragon bullshit. i’m having a lot of fun in big heavy armor two handing a heavy nightrider’s glaive with phantom slash. that attack is hella cheap on magic points and unpredictable (you can even cancel out of it while the ghost still attacks) and i’m having a lot of luck catching people by surprise.

latency is an absolute mess on big matches tho, i pity anyone trying to play a block or parry build. also the empty arenas make access to a gap closer mandatory for strength builds

I do believe her first dialogue immediately opens with something about orange Capri Suns also containing both lemon and lime before vague warnings about the sick sad body horror happening in the castle up the road

In my last attempt at this game a month ago I fancied some choice whip action before deciding that even with the thorn whip (taken from the noble tracking his lost servant) was Too Much Work

I lost track of this dude almost immediately. I assume the silent guy in roundtable hold killed him unceremoniously?

So there’s an official two-volume Elden Ring strategy guide by Future Press. I’m sure it’s great, but they don’t seem to be handling the release very well.

Not only are they coming out way after the game, but the first volume seems to be out of print and the second volume hasn’t been released yet. I pre-ordered the Dark Souls 2 guide along with the game (most money I’ve ever spent on a video game by far) and it was nice to refer to the book as I played the game.

The two-volume Elden Ring art book set is about to come out in English as well. Looks like they will be about $50 for each volume (though they might actually end up being cheaper if the reported price of the Japanese version is any indicator).

I have the Dark Souls art books but I never picked up the Bloodborne one because it was softcover and I’d read something about the binding not being very good. And I think it’s been unavailable for a long time at this point anyway, so it’s irrelevant.

However, the reason I’m bringing this up is that I learned last night that you can still get the French version of the Bloodborne art book and that it’s a quality hardcover. I wish I could see it in person. I would eventually like to own that book in some form, as I hear it’s very good and includes interesting designs that were cut from the game.
