Elden Ring 2

one of my favourite parts of the game, maybe the only time i really dug Limgrave

based on what you’ve said earlier, this pointer might be useful:

Patches sells an item that’ll help with the fight with Margit but sounds like you didn’t need it afterall.

I’m not sure how tackling that dungeon that connects to Caelid out of order works but that ties into a super minor NPC’s pseudo quest.

I just got summoned probably seven times in a row by someone who was having trouble in the Auriza Hero’s Grave, and they really made the most of the emotes each try. We eventually made it and they let me know how hyped they were.

I ran that pointer by a friend as literally 95% of the names in this game go over my head without them sinking in and they are pretty certain I did exactly what you described, so I will look into the bell next time I visit the Roundtable place, thanks!

So I explored a bunch of the castle, found a friend, beat the boss thanks to the aid of said friend, went to explore other parts of the castle as there were some doors that were only openable from the other side, ended up against three giants at the same time (one of which was a frickin’ archer, jerk) and basically cheesed the fight by having them take each other out, saw a warp thing, couldn’t not touch the warp thing, warped to the exact place I should have went after beating that great boss, looked for a way out, could not find one, relented and used fast travel, decided may as well stop at the roundtable place since I’m doing this, tried to save once there and quit for the day except a red invader attacked me from behind, tried to heal except I didn’t have the flash equipped, rolled for a bit while shuffling through items, healed, killed the fool, quit for the day.

So I think that counts as a successful session, will grab the bell next time and I guess warp back to the castle and explore some more, I gotta give From credit the designed the hell out of that place.

the game certainly has that problem!

I really only have to say: do what you will, have a unique experience and talk to people about it. The real elden ring is talking about elden ring after having a good time.

If shit is too hard go find the tool you need to crack it. Or just go untill the tool reveals itself.

ok okay okey: one piece of real advice:
Learn how to shield parry with R2, I cant parry for shit, I dont play fighting games. but this is really easy. as soon as your shield is hit, pop that R2. It makes a lot of hard stuff manageable.

Im like 200 hours in (Im not a 200 hour gamer mind-you, this is a freak occurance) and Im just putting all the lore together. And boy is it wild.
This is a game world where the people in it hardly know what is going on so you should never feel bad that you dont either. That just means you are paying youre role.

So… some new fellow in the roundtable place marked something on my map so after I went back to the castle to explore a bit more (found a near-boss in the “basement”) I went to said location and there was another warp point. As previously noted I can’t not touch a warp point, it’s just not in my nature. Warp to a new building rather far away, go inside and talk to the fellow there about deathroots or something and… well let’s hit the main points.

-Notice a big guy standing guard in front of this building, decide to hit him and notice I do fairly poor damage but more importantly he is fast and hits for like 75% of my health. Try a second time using my physick flask and summoning for the first time, I picked the cute jellyfish; I end up running to heal while jellyfish gets annihilated and see a tiny normal enemy come up to me. I think they look cute until they also hit me for massive damage and I die. Huh.

-Sneak past the big guard guy and stealth these tiny fellows, even two handing my big weapon and getting the free critical hit from behind it still takes three follow-up hits to put them down. They also drop 1k runes each(!) so once I finally sneak to the end of this area to the next site of grace by the bridge I have the 20k-ish runes I need for another level.

-Said bridge has a dragon on it, I did good against the swamp dragon so try to fight this fella and a) it has a boss health bar that took very little damage and b) possibly hit harder than the scary big guard guy. Run away, hop on horse, manage to squeeze past it on the bridge without dying.

-This takes me right to another minor endtree thing and the giant stump looking thing that guards them. I did alright the last time I fought on of these in the southeast of the starting area so I go to attack. Attack does negligible damage and it also hits hard as hell. Die, come back at stake thing, grab runes but reactivate them, hop on horse and see a wind-tunnel which I jump up and takes me to that building right behind the massive dragon I tail attacked for 45 minutes. Quit for the day here.

-Next day go in said building, run past all the flying folks on the ground floor to take on the occasionally invisible spectral blue knights on the roof and manage to beat them all. Move on, hit the jump to get to the place that should let me climb down to where the item I could see at the start was and there are a couple rats here. Don’t worry about them, turns out they are very high level and straight murder me. Do another few attempts to run past everything and get my ruins back, eventually kill the giant rat and get that one item, forget to ever check what it does.

-Find a normal dragon nearby, fight it, it is basically a boss battle but I beat it. Things are going better today!

-Notice that there are dragons all over this place, go “huh” and sneak around them. End up in place with lots of big dogs, they are rough to fight so eventually decide to just sneak around them. See a cool tower looking things.

-See ladders and enemies on the outside of said tower. See giant roots near where I’m looking at that seems sorta reachable. See notes on ground that refer to horse.

-Use horse to jump onto roots, get onto outside of tower, drop near a small but hardy enemy i beat.

-Climb around the outside of this tower via various ladders and crumbling ledges, this is pretty fucking great!

-Get to a site of grace right in front of an opening that leads inside the tower. Go in, kill a couple knights and realize I basically have to platform down the inside of this tower via various crumbling stone beams(?). This kinda owns.

-Get through the first part of this and fight a knight who is ridiculously stronger than me. Die to him and die before I get back so I lose some thousand runes; that’s fine as I didn’t expect to gather them when I jumped over here. Eventually cheese him and climb and fall some more.

-Get to another site of grace, have to fight one of these knights straight up. Die a few times as it takes a ton of hits to put down (dodging its attack and hitting a two-handed strikes until my stamina bar empties is just enough to stun them and land a critical hit, doing that four times almost takes away all its health) but finish it off. Find out there is a fog door past it. Go to see what the boss is like and am just hilariously outgunned, one hit nearly kills me (legit 80+% of my health vaporized) and my hit barely scratches it. Laugh and decide to leave; there does not appear to be a way back up. I sigh and reluctantly fast travel back to the tower entrance.

-Try to climb down the tower, die several times and never figure out exactly how to get off of it. Grumble and fast travel a second time.

-Ride out of Caelid as I’m clearly outgunned by much of it, rest at a site just outside of it and save for the day.

So basically… I spent much of the past few days running and sneaking around stuff. Didn’t exactly get a ton done either (found a gold seed thing though) but it was quite the mini-adventure. Can’t wait to come back in 20 or so hours and get my revenge on pretty much everything there.

I swear that one group of tiny vulgar militia guys to the southeast of that beast church probably killed me more times than anything else in the game so far aside from the gargoyle bosses.

did anyone else find themselves wishing there were a bit more fuzzy integration between the open field zones and the on-foot dungeons? several of castles/city open out into a wide central road with carriages visible and it seems strange that i can’t use my horse there.

like, if you could open up certain pathways in these dungeons to the outside and ride through them without the formal break of a tunnel or elevator that would be amazing. some of the minor castles or the tower in caelid get close to that feeling of ease.

The horse feels like too much of a security blanket outside of the couple fights that are built around it, so I can see why they limited it for those pure Souls-y sections.

Well I’m currently in the starry underworld which is new/unexpected. I’d have guessed there’d be something like this around somewhere, but the scope caught me a bit off guard.

The ride down is sooo good. One of my favorite moments in that game.

Yesterday afternoon I beat a certain golden boss on my first try, and resuming where I left off I realized my great rune wasn’t activated.

I guess I’m either better at this than I thought or I’m way over leveled.

fun fact: i ruined this surprise for myself by not getting on the elevator after activating it because i changed my mind. then i changed my mind again, and when i noticed how long it took to come back….

It took me about 40 hours to go “you know, I could actually upgrade my weapon”. I’ve been waiting to come across my From weapon of choice the great club and figured I’d upgrade once I found it, yet so far it has eluded me and I’ve used this same weapon for about the last 30 hours so it’s probably worth making it a bit fancier. Fortunately (I think?) the watchdog’s staff uses the somber smithing stuff so it won’t waste materials I was saving for said club, I was able to move it up to a +2 and that’s enough to make a rather noticeable difference. Cheated and fast traveled to that mine I got warped into to test it against the boss there I felt a bit outgunned by a short time back and managed to drop it on this first new attempt in a close competitive battle.

Anyways was gonna head back to that northwest from starting area I accidentally wandered/warped into during the early hours of the game but got distracted by stuff and am currently checking out stuff to the northeast instead. Found a neat tower but could only go halfway up it, I take it I need some sort of item to make it further.

If you’re talking about the tower that I think you are, that was a rough first climb.

Tower of Caelid was one of my favorite parts. I loved doing sketchy horse stunts on narrow ledges.

When you finally reach the site of grace, make sure to keep poking around. There’s a bonus optional challenge which makes the space even cooler.

It was a neat little challenge I thought! After the initial “oh god what do I do?” I decided to just ignore all the lesser blue fellas and just straight charge the AI invading red phantom at all times which ended up being a pretty viable strategy. When he did his last teleport I cleaned up the guys left behind, healed up and took him out up top. Was a fun little fight!

Today I found a seemingly peaceful little town of jar people that I had to fast travel out of as I couldn’t figure out how else to leave and ended up underground once more. I think I’ve done all I can there but there is stuff I haven’t yet gotten to (the map I found suggests as much) so I’m pretty sure that there has to be a second entrance to this area somewhere else, either that or I missed a hidden wall or tunnel somewhere but I was fairly thorough.

That’s the one! I ended up cheaply killing that guy with a crossbow.

So long story short but I found another warp thing and once again could not resist touching it and ended up in Crumbling Farum Azula for a brief moment. The game really has no qualms just dropping you someone you likely shouldn’t be for a few minutes and god my map is now all stretched to hell.
