This game was cool, they should make another one.
Let me on the fucking boats!!
another reason dark souls 2 is superior

Finally beat the Nokstella boss and now Iām in a worse areaāmaybe the worst area yet. The fight wasnāt so bad after I got my Commanderās Standard up to +9. I had been shy about committing the special weapon upgrade stones, but weight aside, this feels like the best halberd Iām going to get. I made it pretty deep into this new spot without radically reconfiguring my equipment to deal with what Iām facing here. Hopefully thatāll make it more manageable when I do give it another go.
I also started poking around the plateau at last, including a couple caves, and the enemies feel a bit easier aside from the instant death gas guys.
I still need to loop back and get further into that post gargoyles area too. I found a key item at the very start of that which storywise I was glad I had before Nokstella. I didnāt actually explore further beyond that initial room though, which maybe was a storyline misstep. The difficulty of that gargoyles fight just seemed like a blatant signpost for somewhere Iām not ready for yet. Weāll see.
A new update hit today that allows summon and invasion signs to be distributed at all activated poolsānot just ones in the area youāre currently in. Itāll be interesting to see how this plays out.
When using the golden effigy you now get a choice as to whether you want to send them to all or just local ones, so I guess this is the best of both worlds.
I dropped summon signs for not even an hour and suddenly I have 200,000 runesāhelped a couple people through Deeproot, killed that dragon on the bridge in Dragonbarrow, got massacred by the War Dead Catacombs boss a couple times.
Invasions are way way up too. I havenāt run into such consistent PVP since the early days of getting summoned over and over by guys luring invaders by the First Step.
yeah wow matchmaking is instant now, this rules
did a bunch of invasions today and the amount of bloodspam was down huge. lotta teams of mages sitting around waiting for invaders to blow up tho :<
i did have a good one where i invaded a host named Soviet and immediately got set upon and killed by 3 guys in peasant outfits wielding pickaxes
Finally got a copy of this and sorry if this has been asked a few times already (I skipped the prior⦠3000 or so posts due to trying to avoid spoilers) but is there any bits of info I should know before getting too far into this? I played all the Souls games so I am familiar with the basics, but I also recall how upgrading stuff in Demonās and dodging in 2 was rather unintuitively implemented.
I just made it to the hub area before quitting for the day and had to google how to get out of there FWIW.
I beat the game before figuring out that there was a functioning bonfire in the hub area.
You shouldnāt need to worry about missing anything or doing anything wrong unless you care about trophies or about seeing all the endings in a single run. And even then, itās minimal. (For example, thereās one special weapon late in the game that you can no longer pick up after the plot advances past a certain point. And thereās a part where you can get sort of locked into a particular ending. I hear itās reversible, but that itās a hassle.)
Of course, you may overlook some optional spots if you never refer to a guide. There are a lot of those.
It will probably become quickly obvious that you almost never have to follow the designated path but can go wherever you want.
(I just noticed for the first time that you can expand a reference to a post in another thread to see an embedded image rather that having to follow the link.)
You will be able to outright buy upgrade stones late in the game, so donāt be too stressed about that.
But there are some obscure mechanical things⦠this isnāt exhaustive:
You can dual wield whatever youāre holding in either hands. Meaning grab with two hands your left or your right item. You can also attack with your left or your right hand while mounted. The button combinations to do this are lost to my memory, but you can Google em.
I recommend putting your heals and mana sips in the quick access inventory so you can reliably hit them with just two buttons presses, instead of cycling to them.
I figured out where the bonfire in the hub was as I wanted to cash in my whatever-they-call-souls for a level before I quit for the day; I did not have enough souls anyways.
This is probably heresy to many but while the Souls games are among my favorites of all time I honestly only ever have the most superficial grasp on what the story in any of them actually is and if you asked me how many endings any of the games had Iād probably be forced to guess (aside from Demonās, which has two I think). If I miss an optional character along the way it is a shame but Iāll live.
Since the game seems to be laid out in a ālet us teach you things bit by bitā way Iāve followed the intended path for the most part so far (I stepped off to take on a dark cave full of wolves and a low level boss) and plan on sticking to it until I hit a boss, at which point Iāll probably just pick an interesting point on the horizon and head off in that direction.
@vodselbt I actually had to figure out how to double hand my sword already, the combo feels different than it was before (I think it is hold down triangle then hit R2 or L2) but it was definitely useful once I figured it out!
IMO the biggest gotcha in Elden Ring mechanics that seems to drag down a lot of people in the first 10-20 hours is how to obtain the right upgrade stones for your weapon (and that itās important to upgrade it at all, but you probably know that part already).
If you choose a Somber-upgraded main weapon, then youāll probably get the stones you need from random wandering. If you choose a regular main weapon though, you need to systematically visit every Tunnel or else youāll probably get stuck at a low upgrade level, as there arenāt a lot of regular smithing stones to be found outside of them.
Tunnels are not hidden, they have a distinct red-craterlike appearance on the map.
There are two NPCs that give you summons which are extremely helpful in the early game and neither of them spawned for me ever. One is by the church at night that you meet on the main story path. The other in a burned down shack right off the main road after that chokepoint canyon.
If you feel too weak to do something just leave. It is a huge game with infinite different holes to go into.
I meant to say if they do not spawn for you donāt worry one eventually shows up in the safe area and the other is related to a very long sidequest.
Itās cool and okay to miss things!
The evergoals are like little F U challenges. You donāt have to do them.
Start marking stuff on your map.
You always respawn at dawn.
There are a lot of surprise bosses if you run around at night.
Enter GOD.HAND as your multiplayer group password. SB tips, blood stains, and the rare summons will be highlighted with a circle.
It think thatās exactly what theyāre expecting for that first area.
@Rudie I actually got one of those summons already (the post-cavern lady one) but I had no idea it was important. A friend of mine spent yesterday trying to convince me that āno, in this game summoning is actually very importantā, I am still a bit hesitant but good to know I have a solid one.
@Broco I am a creature of habit and my habit is hoping I stumble upon a giant club early on and upgrading it as much as humanly possible, so how well my upgrades progress is likely tied to how soon that happens. I will note not to waste regular smithing stones early on though, thatās very useful to know!
if you go to Liurnia that prevents Ranni from spawning in the church i think, and then you have to buy the summon bell from Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold. you donāt have to cycle the time to night though, i think it will switch automatically for that event after fast travelling
