If you check out the area immediately leading to Godrick thoroughly, you’ll find a pretty handy NPC you can summon.
I feel like those Caelid giant dogs and crows gave me more trouble than Godrick did, so I bet you’re ready.
I finally found the other back door into Dragonsbarrow over the weekend, and at long last got what I needed out of there for the time being. Word on the street is I ought not do much more exploring there until much much later in the game? I wasn’t brave enough to fuck with that really really really really large thing I spotted in there yet. Maybe I’ll go back and ride through quickly when I have fewer souls on hand.
I mean, I think you should definitely explore if you’re feeling brave. it’s just a very dangerous area. but it can be rewarding to try it underleveled. it’s do-able.
I feel like I’m reading tea leaves still with trying to figure out where I’m supposed to be. A key item description made it clear I’m supposed to get here, but right outside of the named spot I found a bunch of smithing stones one and two tiers ahead of what I currently have. Yet there’s also a couple injured enemies right next to them with partial health bars implying that I’ve found some path of least resistance while still reminding me that some full strength ones are lurking about.
Heh that wasn’t a wordier expression of Git Gud but rather
Magma Wyrm is big, slow and has about 6 different attacks depending on range. The 360 sword swirl can be dodged with a jump (a la Sekiro). His charging attack will always involve him doing a 180 and repeat a further 2 times where he will lunge to signal the end of this routine. The most telegraphed attack he does is when he raises his sword to bring it down; bait for a jump attack afterwards. His most vulnerable attack is when he spews lava over his right shoulder; take the left-hand side and smack that belly
in terms of general strategy for the magma wyrm, his torso is targetable separate from his head, and I found it to be much safer to focus your attacks there, because his tells are a lot easier to read. his most dangerous attack is when he charges forward for an extended period and leaves a trail of damage zone lava behind him. this is the main thing to look at for when targeting his torso, but for my money it’s a lot easier to see coming when you’re positioned that way, and because he isn’t facing you directly, you’re less likely to get stuck in the lava residue.
if you’re already using a katana, it is heavy enough to stagger him with repeated jump attacks and guard counters. with the katana at least you get more damage by just wailing on him while he’s stunned instead of going for the crit. might be a different story with a strike weapon, idk. getting a few of those in is usually enough to take him down, at least in this version without the phase 2 (which is considerably harder to deal with)
Also depends if you are fighting the magma wurm in an actual dungeon, outside, or in one of the holes in the ground. The hole in the ground is really hard!
The volcano manor one took me for-fucking-ever and I eventually just sniped it to death with an extremely upgraded bow, because I had immense patience, some DOTs that worked on it, and was just sick to death of lava
Wow, there are so many? In tight places it’s really nasty! This time I am fighting it in the tunnels that go to Caelid, I will try to put your advice in practice tomorrow. @toups will that spirit I am going to free in the underground river be okay vs the wyrm, or will it be fried by the magma? All my other spirits are useless in this fight (well, the most decent I have are probably the wolves…)
Ahh yeah should have specified—this is only possible for a small number of magma worms located in the overworld or large “legacy dungeons”. The advice about attacking its body is the best for the one you are fighting now.
I finally rolled credits on this last night. Extremely disappointed in myself for dropping my trusty heavy ceastus +25 for a powerstanced katana/Rivers of Blood but after 100+ hours I was ready to wrap things up. I absolutely shredded Haligtree and Mohgwyn’s palace so mission accomplished I suppose.
I did go back to my trusty fists for the final assault on the capital, and I’m very happy I did. Going fist to fist against Horah Loux while the Guile theme played in the background was a wonderful experience, and now I’m turning over a new game / no summons run in my mind.
I killed Godrick! I need a few upgrades to my stuff to do some more meaningful damage.
Then, this morning, I fought the magma wyrm for two hours. Hated every minute of it. Then I killed it! Only then, in retrospective, I realized I loved every minute of it.
