Wow, itâs unbelievable how much more ominous that is than even Martin was.
Side note Iâm not saying much in the thread but Elden ring doesnât actually require to exhaust the side stuff at all, doesnât clutter the map with icons that clear out if you finish them, and so much of the optional stuff is still fun and clever. Itâs a sandbox game that actually expects you to treat it as a thing to experiment with, mix up your characters, and explore in bite sized bits at your own pace.
I cannot think the open world is a bad thing when Iâve had so many great moments of discovery, and itâs so easy to decide exactly how exhaustive you wanna go .

i am extremely high on the game across the board, but i do have one significant disappointment, and itâs that the multiplayer shit is hella reined in. to start, itâs just a drag that invasions are as limited as they are. and then, especially since they seemed to playing around with most of the other high notes theyâd hit in all the other games, i expected at least some gravelord or mound-makers-style stuff, and really i was hoping for some gonzo ass ds2 rat covenant or bell tower out-of-left-field shit, but instead thereâs not even a little weirdo somewhere giving me rewards for straight-up invasion kills?? come on

I finished Elden Ring last night. Now itâs time to try to remember what other things I used to do in my free time. (I havenât watched a movie since I got this game, for example.) Maybe this is what it feels like to stop playing a MMORPG. Or would, in theory, if anyone ever stopped playing a MMORPG.
I used a trick (that I assume will soon be patched to do less damage) to get through a couple of the final fights. Itâs the one where you ring the wraith bell and parry your own wraith with Carian Retaliation on a shield. I think it might have worked particularly well for me because I had focused on INT in a respec and fully upgraded my shield because why not.

For my taste, I think that extra scene of the frenzy flame sort of basking and waltzing around in the fire seems a bit too personified for the kind of formless incoherence I took it to be. It just seems like regular enjoyment, which is not something Iâd expect a thing like that to so readily take part in or affect. Besides that, I think this is the best ending and seems like it might be the canonical one, what with the Melina scene which follows.

Also beat this last night. Ended up reversing my Frenzy curse* and simping for Ranni and Moon Rule. What a wild, exhilarating and exhausting 146 hour adventure. Pretty great.
I must have got lucky with my human summons because the last trio of bosses didnât present much of a problem. Sir Gideon and Elden Beast on the first go, Godfrey in two tries. Satisfying since none of my co-op buddies were grossly OP and carrying the fights, we just had good rhythm in whittling down each boss (a particular delight being able to run up and grab Gideon with Insescapable Frenzy while heâs monologuing at the start.
*apparently itâs possible to die at the same time as Placidusax and get locked out of that arena and never be able to use Miquellaâs Needle to remove Frenzy? Hilariously cruel and kinda fitting when flirting with the âevilâ ending but I shudder to think about going through all the trouble and getting screwed like that.

this is a more minor complaint than it sounds as Iâve already spent more time with this one than any of the others, but I do think this is the first souls game that I canât be bothered finishing when Iâm not even quite up to the final boss â even only playing once a week, every hour after 50 or so has been a mix of incredulity on my part that they still expect me to curate my experience from so many repetitive choices and exhaustion at the idea of having to fight another boss.
very good time overall, back stretch is just asking too much
