It’s worth noting the cosmology melting pot is a well practiced skill at this point, as some of DuckTales’ staff had been doing it big time on Transformers Animated and Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated. Scooby Doo in particular has tons of fun building a general Hanna-Barbera-verse mixed with the myth of Cthulhu with reasons why intelligent talking animals are common occurrences that include such mythological lineage as Anubis and the monkey king but there are still ordinary animals, or why teams of mystery-solving teens with funny companions are a recurring memetic pattern of the world. You don’t quite get how much fun can be had with this until you see an imprisoned Yogi bear in Hannibal Lecter restraints, Vincent Van Ghoul as a B-movie horror actor or that the original show’s road trip destination is Miskatonic University.
Watched the episode they go to the family castle (the Secret(s) of Castle McDuck!) so…don’t khow, spoilers below?
||HOLY HECK i am so happy about the silly ways that they managed to keep both of tio patinhas alive, remember a bit from what i read as a child on Don Rosa and i was smiling almost all that episode
It’s hard to escape a shade of River Song in Goldie’s depiction here. Which is no bad thing.
i gave a blood option but i actually didn’t understood what you mean, i was sad and trying to watch cartoons at 4 pm.
David Tennant is most known for playing Doctor Who, and River Song is Doctor Who’s wife.
Donna, there, incidentally, is Magica.
AHHHH! thank you
She’s a time-travelling archeologist/con artist/general rogue, who keeps erratically crossing paths with the Doctor. Hyper-capable yet unreliable. Their relationship is all out-of-order due to the mutual time travel, and it’s unclear how antagonistic or weird things will be at any meeting.
finished the first season, and i liked it, gonna go to the second season with the order on hand.
i don’t khow what to add as comentary here, i am just happy i found a place to find people talking about it.
heck, i wished i was on this forums years ago while following steven universe.
so finally finished watching and seeing mostly of the thread.
And thinking how the last episode was the harp one.
Is Weebly like… a child from fowl operatives or like a child enginered there or something and her gradma saved her? like, with all the talk about family and everthing on the show, i think someday there is gonna be talk about her parents.
“Louie’s Eleven!” was so much fun. Having the Three Caballeros back reminded me of how stacked this show is. In another cartoon they would have been a one off, but it’s nice that they can come back around any time. it’s nice that this show kept so much of the Simpsons-ness of Gravity Falls with the giant cast of ringers. Bebe Neuwirth was great as a Miranda Priestly type. Donald and Daisy’s were very sweet and actually romantic in a way i didn’t expect. This is like the first Daisy who actually has a personality beyond nagging. Finding a way to use the Die Hard TV edit line “Yippie Kay Yay Mr. Falcon” in context was pretty amazing. Really one of the most purely fun episodes for my money. Also hey Fantasia hippo sitting around.
i don’t khow where to post this because i made it, but like, if you watch Ducktales and also watched Golden Kamuy, i have a meme for you…i guess?
Della Duck’s utter revulsion of fish people was extremely good. Paget Brewster nailed that gag.
Astro B.O.Y.D. really added some much needed depth to Gyro. Not only nice to see his original design but also a reason why he went Rusty Venture. Seeing this version of Tokoyolk reminds me that even as late as maybe the 2000s, American animators would have just had a bunch of random gibberish as Japanese text signs. This one seemed like a bunch of big block katakana words but still a little step up. Also the little Lupin cameo was cute
Lupin was long due for a cameo given that we’d seen Jigen in the very first episode IIRC.
also cute that Usagi from sailor moon is a literal rabbit
if you like the ongoing lena plot today’s episode is definitely one for you!
the phantom blot was fine as a villain but i think this is the first time they have mostly wasted their overqualified voice cast. giancarlo esposito could have really been anyone. the episode itself was a lot of fun, though. always grateful that the cast is so stacked that you can have weird combinations like gladstone and the girls.
Lena and the girls’ Gravity Falls magic adventures have been my favorite part of this show so far. This one? Didn’t love it.
Half the charm of Lena is that she’s like a weird shadow demon minion given life. Now she ditched her entire dark vibe to become like a priestly blue do-gooder. I dunno, I liked that she was the begrudging “daughter” of Magicka and was stuck being a part of her. Now she’s like a fully different character.
Guess we’ll see where they go next with it, but yeah, I’m not crazy about the new design or direction.
“They Put a Moonlander on the Earth!” was pretty cute. I feel like Penny conceptually is a good original character and if they can fully just make her basically Thor as fish out of water I would be fine with that. Not a particularly strong ep to me although the ducks feeding ducks gag was funny.
