it’s difficult (but not unintuitive!) and unnecessary to play it that well, that quickly. but it’s fair to say they definitely resolved my complaint that the first game occasionally felt like a janky, past-its-time physics mod on top of “generic UE3 FPS,” and barely did any more than deus ex or thief with its scope. that’s some quality GAMEFEEL.
Emily was probably a bad ruler but I sure do enjoy massacring her former soldiers while she sneers “traitorous dog!”

Don’t you know about the two cakes?
It goes like this. You bring a cake to a party and see that someone already brought one. You look at it and the other person’s cake just looks spectacular. Real craftsmanship went into it. You feel sad about your cake because it can’t measure up to that level of niceness. Suddenly one of the party goers comes by and yells out “HOLY SHIT, TWO CAKES!”
Welcome To My Channel: The Shitty Cake
my ghostmom just said I was “becoming everything [she] fought against” gosh mom sometimes a girl just needs to call some uncanny throbbing sculpture from the void to mesmerize crowds of her enemies while she systematically slits their throats to secure the legacy you left her!!!
I did it.
I killed them all.
Fuck you, mom!
I’m in level 4, about to head in Jindosh’s mansion, and I have no idea how I’m going to get through this without getting detected. Killing clockwork soldiers won’t count as a kill since they aren’t human, but they can still detect you. So, should be interesting.
Clockworks need humans to wake them up, even the first ones…
I was pretty stoked when I redid the mission and discovered you can do the whole thing without Jindosh even seeing you
just finished the clockwork mansion. whatever problems this game might have, level design ain’t one of them. it has been consistently joyful and inventive in the most videogamey of ways.
man, this is one hell of a videogame
corvo makes no sense as a protoganist choice. everyone probably assumes the girl is some pushover puppet empress, but lets focus on disabling her in our coup attempt and then just casually knock out the legendary one man murder dad and send him on his way to coldridge prison where I’m sure he will calmly sit in a cell and not make any trouble while we depose his daughter because that worked out so well the last time someone tried that exact same thing.
yeah I really wish the overarching direction of this one wasn’t a dull fart because it’s so strong in so many other respects
At the very least 15 years have passed since the first game (I think) so perhaps they figured that Corvo is washed up while the empress is in her prime, in addition to being trained by that madman for most of her life.
I started this a few days ago, just finished up the second area. I always have a rough time in terms of getting used to how to stealth when I start up one of these first person sneakers, but it is starting to click and I like rummaging through apartments.
I’m enthusiastic about this but I also feel similarly to the way I did about Civ 5 when I kept buying expansions without ever being completely sold on the core product. if they can actually get an interesting story arc in there over the course of three or however many missions it has the potential to be better than the main game (whose only major problems are repetitive mission structure and poor overarching narrative), I reckon
the steam description for this very gently suggests that they’re getting away from the current mission structure toward something less self-defeating:
The Greatest Assassination
Killing the Outsider won’t be easy. You’ll have to journey deep into the seedy underbelly of Karnaca, where you’ll unravel some the city’s lost secrets. Along the way you’ll infiltrate underground fight clubs and black magic cults, and retrieve ancient artifacts in a thrilling bank heist mission that sets the table for your greatest mission ever.
The Definitive Targets
As you hunt down The Outsider, face off against a new cast of enemies along the way. Armed with your weapons, gadgets and abilities, take down deadly foes such as the immortal Envisioned, the relentless Sisters of the Oracular Order and the new Clockwork Soldiers. Up the ante by accepting Contracts to find and eliminate optional targets throughout your mission.
Also, militant orders of nuns which is my favorite
