Honestly, from the rest of her twitter account, I would’ve thought she was a decent person, but these tweets make her sound like a selfish, clout-chasing asshole
The outro from the art book.
My guess is a bunch of messy Eastern Europeans, dreamy artists and recovering alcoholics and what have you, weren’t exactly the most pleasant bosses to work under - we know for a fact the development of Disco was completely untenable and miraculously salvaged, poorly measured scope, moments of complete despair wrt feasibility of the project and so on, and I can see a lot of resentment leading to low and mid level workers being like, screw it, anything but that kind of mess. Still, seeing first world country devs and academics and IGF crowds tsk-tsk at the complaining masses after their clique has taken over the creative part of the studio makes me want to vomit. It’s not as if Disco has ever been clean - the project was saved with money of an ultra right-wing oligarch - but it’s ugly as hell to do a victory lap after you benefited from a shady business types’ scheme to get rid of the previous idea people. Especially when I know for a fact that a lot of people who are posting snarky opaque remarks about Kurvitz and co. on Twitter make more money monthly than an Estonian dev does in a year lol
ah gosh, shoulda bought it. lovely stuff
It is incredibly easy to find online.
The thing these people support as a way of opposing auteur theory is just as equally ridiculous. Like, yeah, nothing’s wrong when the team that previously operated hierarchically (and still does) removes some of its lead creatives. Nothing is wrong because we still got the person who wrote barks writing barks on the new one, and the lady in sound is still here. If you liked that one you’ll love what’s next! And if you don’t, or if you’re even worried that you might not then you’re a fucking problem!
Rhizomes
idk anything about DE or who did what but i have to say it’s a little unnerving to see a lot of people in real time seemingly convince themselves that respecting culture workers is when you go see the “oops! all mike love” edition of the beach boys
lol
huh, there’s a glitch with twitter which means I can’t directly reply to this, that’s odd, guess I’ll have to quote tweet
don’t worry, it looks good for their engagement metrics
oh yeah, I read a paper on that. Marx ratio | MR Online
that was hired after the people were forced out and never worked on the game
this is all pretty sad to me, but i am still finding a kind dark giggle in seeing reactions on twitter being like “Wait no auteur theory is actually real this time”
auteur theory isn’t even applicable. It’s not like it was one guy out of hundreds, it was a quarter of the team that made the game, the ones who were there from the very start
i’m just being dumb
it is encouraging, though, that it seems like a lot of fans of the game are also the kind of people who see through this stuff. i guess if an Amazon show does actually happen and does well (i…can’t see that happening tbh) it might give these bodysnatchers some legs, but i guess we’ll have to see
thinking about the dicemaker and/or the failed game studio headquarters
i should finish this game
