cant believe I made it. panic slamming into so many rocks. spent every grenade I had, bb went toxic, everything is rusty. didnt die tho.
Thereās actually a couple pretty good clear paths for the bike through that zone once you get to know them, although you still need to be wary of ghosts. Once youāre linked itāll become easier of course because people build shortcut bridges over the rockier areas.
I could not believe the very beginning of chapter 4 when this game suddenly and very briefly turned into a conventional 3rd person shooter complete with handguns, ARs, shotguns and grenades. That was wild. My gf has mostly been controlling this game when we play, but I had to step in for that bit because sheās not used to that kind of gameplay. It was surprisingly demanding!
itās so crazy to me that people complain that this is a walking simulator because it honestly has so much dense gameplay, like maybe more than any kojima game. there is so much game here, so many detailed mechanics, so much depth and intricacy. itās a fair criticism that a lot of it isnāt necessary if you just wanna plow your way to the finish line but like⦠this aināt gone home or something in the slightest.
(and I feel like if you did play it in a way where you were just trying to plow your way to the finish line, it would probably be very boring and not fun)
honestly as annoying as kojimaās bullshit about this game being an entirely new genre is⦠heās kind of right, like I canāt think of anything to compare this to, except maybe the phantom pain, which already was kind of teetering at the edge of something beyond stealth, open world, or sim.
Itāll be very interesting to see the influence this will (or will not) have on the medium. Iāve been reading a lot of social ecology theory and it makes me really want a Strand-like about farming, where you learn and use actual real-world knowledge and techniques, and slowly unlock new speculative solarpunk technologies. Like, I want to learn the local ecosystem and construct devices that integrate with it in novel and sustainable ways that our current technology cannot. Set it in the post-capitalist ruins, trying to repopulate the biosphere.
Ever since the term āwalking simulatorā was invented as a derisive term to describe games with no mechanics where you just move from point A to point B to point C to experience the book someone wrote in an obtuse way (JUIST WRITE A GODDAMB BOOK, ASSHOLES, COME ON), Iāve wanted an ACTUAL walking simulator, but Iāve also just been too tired and weary and drained and depressed to explain to people that what I was envisioning wasnāt QWOP: the RPG
So Iāma be honest Iām actually really glad Kojima just like⦠straight up read my mind, if all accounts are to be believed
the guy at the Weather Station is Errolson Hugh
Yeah, the āwalking simulatorā and āstealthā phrases other IT nerds at work kept using to bag on this game based on previews actually had me pretty encouraged. If anyone can do both of those correctly, itās Kojima.
My biggest surprise about this game is that it doesnāt break the fourth wall nearly as much as the MGS games.
Side note: when I carry in groceries lately I scoff at the thought of making a separate trip and just load all the bags up like Sam Porter Bridges.
Re: fourth wall, vague but better to be safe I really like that the fourth wall breaks are tied to a specific character and even then can be read as metaphor instead.
anyone else keep getting messages about how the game canāt stay connected to the network? itās fairly inconsequential i guess but i just want those fat likes from all the roads iām helping to rebuild
Oh yeah Kojimaās already teasing his next game
And oh yeah its a horror game and oh man⦠PT is still probably my favourite game of his soo
Kojima please make PTwo
As long as itās only the game that canāt connect and not the console itself (which would be indicated by a standard playstation overlay saying servers canāt be reached) you can just reconnect using the log in option in the pause menu (same section as mails, etc, under āsystemā).
Iāve seen at least two characters fourth wall break, so I am not sure which one you are refering to.
Sam does this pretty regularly in the private quarters, though the easiest one to note is when he grabs the camera to make you look at the action figures. But also Heartman does it a lot when you meet him, specifically shoving things off the camera like his countdown timer and such. Itās pretty funny. His whole apartment is a big fucking WINK, between the logo for NWRās streaming service on the back of his monitor to the pink/blue lighting scheme.
Oh dang I was not thinking hard enough. I havenāt done the thing with Sam and had kind of discounted Heartman as meta fictional gags that donāt directly break the wall.
I was thinking about Higgs talking about āgame oversā and āboss battles.ā It feels a lot like in Twin Peaks The Return when the show is teasing you with The Old Thing but when it happens itās spoiled and horrifying.
The beginning of the game also has Deadman talking about Game Over with what is clearly meant to be the Metal Gear Solid GAME OVER graphic popping up behind Sam on a screen, so thereās probably more I am not thinking of.
I think Iāve only seen like 3 scenes with Higgs so far.
The fourth wall is kinda diegetic in Samās room since heās actually being monitored in every conceivable way when heās in there, so Iāve just been assuming heās doing it for his in-game audience.
Possible, though him grabbing the camera that at least is not treated as being a physical thing in the game is a bit weird.
Really want to try some Timefall Porter
