the thing I am finding with this game is that I do not have a read on any of what’s going on, the idea that I somehow managed to literally stumble into flirting(?) with this woman is a great example

also I was completely blindsided by the bartender lady inviting me to go racing and her car has two giant trans flags on it

this game is like if reactionaries tried to make an overcomplicated saints row but with a smokescreen of progressiveness and it shows

So this expansion pack comes out this month, yeah? I can’t believe I’m actually seeing hype for this online. Seeing comments along the line of “this is what the game should have always been from the start”. Like, you’d just have to be the most brainless fool to fall for this shit a second time???

Third time. This is the same buzz around the game when edgerunners came out.

I can understand the desire to say something is “better” when it’s just the same thing you know you didn’t hate before. That is why they keep remaking games after all.

Personally I’m looking forward to the 2.0 update, which is a free update that includes the bulk of the changes to AI, leveling systems, etc. I’ll probably pick up the expansion at some point as well, but it isn’t required to enjoy these changes.

The game isn’t perfect of course, but public opinion isn’t capable of nuance.

i have a friend who is extremely bitter about this game because he says it was only good when it was unpatched “because it was like boiling point road to hell” and they have been increasingly turning it into a generic gta clone, and every once and a while he looks at it in his steam library and gets pissed off

I wish it was more in the boiling point direction but it was only a true trainwreck on consoles

Yeah, it was surprisingly stable and good looking on even mid range PCs.

The patch fix that I most took umbrage with was when they made driving easier and more responsive. These cars should drive like they look, like land boats that starting rusting as soon as your signature on the lease dried.

Allegedly this runs on a 1050ti now so I might eventually play it.

Neat.

feels like they relaunch this every couple of months

is it worth playing yet

I’ve been vaguely tempted to fool around with phantom liberty with my new GPU since the intro stuff was genuinely decent in the first release and this sounds more like that, and this sounds more tempting, but I’m ultimately not that curious

No. The driving and shooting are still abysmal, their vision of the future is completely unimaginative, and idris elba phones it in super hard.

[extremely loud ad for Milfguard drowns out all the sound in the area around you]

I started playing this again. Didn’t even realize there was another big update. I’m honestly having a much better time this time around, even though I can’t really tell what they changed with the DLC update. just kinda feels better to play. it still has all the same problems as before, but I generally am impressed by the things this game succeeds at despite being a huge mess.

it is very funny to me keanu reeves at his most actingest is about on the level of your average AAA videogame voice actor. he fits right in. just kinda weird considering how much they must have paid for him. at the same time I think he’s really good here.
