I forgot they made crackdown 3 until just now

The guy’s an outrage merchant, unfortunately, hyping up controversy for views. The mirror of the blind, adoring fan; willing to burn hours to prove the other side wrong. =/

the irate fan army already being fully formed for this game (i read the replies, my fault) is obviously not high on the list of horrible things going on right now but i feel like in a normal year i would be allowed to get mad about it

Performance on PC isn’t super great either. I have an i9 and an RTX 2080. I play at 1440p with ray tracing on and that’s only possible because of DLSS, which I have to set to performance mode instead of quality. So the game kinda has this washed out look to it that reminds me of the time I played LA Noire in 720p instead of 1080 because the digital faces just looked way cooler that way. The lighting so far is incredible though, those rays are really doing work. I like the graphics I’m getting and it’s running at close to 60 fps, so that’s fine. My arch nemesis features heavily in the game and that’s the dreaded pop in. This will bother me to no end I’m sure so any chance for ā€œimmersionā€ is already out of the window for me personally. I really, really can’t stand pop in. Shit’s on ultra already so it seems that’s just the way the game is.

The character creator is rather forgettable but I manged to make a vanilla male caucasian face I’m happy with. The only hair color that works is brunette and everything else looks like shit. You can’t make a blond or red or something more exotic that doesn’t look like a graphical glitch. I don’t like the physique of the dude I created but there’s absolutely nothing you can customize about it. Except for the dick. I’m playing Penis 1, which is the uncut one and all my role playing options will be guided by this early choice. I’ll make every deep, moral decision as an uncut penis haver

I chose the Nomad start, not because I like hillbillies - I don’t and would have rather started as Corpo Gordon Gecko style dude - but I wanted to start outside of Night City and make my way there. That sounds like a cool start.

Spent about half an hour fiddling with the graphics settings as soon as I was in the game proper. That’s PC gaming and not a point of criticism - I like doing that.

The first car you drive as Nomad already feels good, so I think they got the driving physics right.

Had my first minor bug about 2 minutes into the game. Will post screenshots later.

I don’t know about this game, man… The part outside of Night City is like 10 minutes long and ends with a first person montage where your character gets to do Cool Stuff that I wish I had gotten to play instead of just watch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a first person montage/cutscene like that in a videogame so that’s cool and all but settling into a new city is something I have fond memories of and I feel kind of robbed that I didn’t get to do that here.

After the cutscene, which is very reminiscent of the Smack My Bitch Up music video, it’s half a year or so later and you get to play the tutorial. The tutorial is quick and painless, it’s fine.

I’ll play more tomorrow but I don’t really find the atmosphere very enticing up to now.

I started playing the witcher 3 recently and it really dampened my enthusiasm for this game. I’ve played maybe 15 hours and I just think it’s kind of worse than witcher 2 in every way. and I didn’t particularly ~love~ witcher 2 either

is witcher 1 good?

I played several hours into it years ago and it wasn’t a bad time. I honestly kind of think it works better in the diablo-style dungeon crawler framework than an action RPG. the controls in witcher 2 were so clunky. they are arguably clunkier in witcher 3, or maybe it just feels that way because my expectations were too high. riding your horse feels just a little too much like riding on a quake func_train. just lots of weird stiff things like that. open world games demand good movement and witcher 3 just doesn’t quite get there.

if you haven’t seen it there’s a menu option that that reduces the realistic animation blends when turning or changing direction that are a large reason the game feels awkward

still, it’s definitely a world of looking not touching

I’m guessing this will happen often. NPCs in weird poses in weird places… I never found out where these two dudes were originally supposed to be and if they’re meant to be sitting on top of each other

But damn, look at that lighting! Look at how his shirt is getting that red light off of the hood of the car… that’s just gorgeous and it really puts you in the scene to see that in motion while you’re playing, not gonna lie

The dialog system is really weird. You can repeat some choices and it ends up looking really strange. Very ā€œshoot the hingesā€

I think this was a bug. The dude just kept disappearing when I got too close to him. Other NPCs didn’t do this… Guess he did trick me

The first action sequence in the game for me was kinda funny. I was wrestling with the controller and didn’t hit very many shots but the game didn’t seem to care. I got curious and replayed that scene just now. This is the result

Truly the next level in interactive fiction
