I do have some hope for the open world though. Maybe itās going to be really cool to just ignore the main quest as soon as they let you and just cruise around the city, explore, get into interesting trouble, get new clothes, vehicles, etc.
when nika played skyrim she created a female character and realized that the writing had essentially made her character into a lesbian entirely on the basis of every other woman character in that game wanting to fuck her character, specifically, all the time

i know there are probably many ways to distribute blame, but i think the safest option would just be to ban europeans from attempting to do any kind of representation of contemporary american multiculturalism

I think thatās fair but shouldnāt be limited to just Europeans and instead expanded to basically everyone. Like, I donāt think the Japanese could do a better job. Maybe Canadians? Thatās about it. Rest of the world = banned
The flipside of that coin is that Americans are banned from trying to say anything about any other culture on the planet because then you get stuff like Max Payne 3 (which I love even though itās hella problematic in the way it deals with Brazilians) or, I donāt know The Last Samurai and things like that
You know what, never mind, fuck ups like that lead to conversations that need to be had. Just at least put some effort in when youāre dealing with other cultures

oh yeah i just think there is something particular about these situations in which people have clearly been fed a steady diet of racist american media and pop culture and then try to create some kind of simulacrum of that and it just somehow makes everything worse

I had an ancient preorder for the ps4 version that I got a good deal on but I just canceled it, maybe Iāll pirate the gog version someday but I canāt give them money for this based on what theyāre using to promote it

You know, this is all on CD Project though. If you look at media from outside the US on anything American youāll find that itās mostly very nuanced. You can learn about Mara Salvatrucha without the usual American pathos and black and white painting of everything. You can watch/read stuff that goes in-depth on whatever social phenomenon and get a balanced assessment. Itās just that apparently CD Project thinks that the racist stereotypes are cool and make for good videogame content. (Not that I want to knock American journalism as a whole; outside of the mainstream news and pop culture thereās obviously a lot of high quality stuff)
Like, can you imagine CD Project making a game about the life of a high-schooler? Jocks and nerds - awesome! Thatās the kind of level this is on, only, well, more dangerous and hurtful to people
