Oh yeah, the only reasons we don’t hear about it more are the language barrier and the overtolerance of overtime in Japanese work culture.
Maybe the work culture at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios isn’t good and we just don’t know,
doesn’t give CDPR a pass for being a shitshow.
No one is saying that.
What Rudie is saying is that of people are gonna play yakuza as a way of avoiding the CDPR crunch shitshow, whelp.
I mean, there are plenty of other good reasons to avoid CDPR, though, so there is that.
honestly, mainly because I think this thing is going to be bad crunch or not
Is there actual confirmation that Sega Japan is worse than CDPR or is that just some kind of speculation?
I think the idea is CDPR is likely to be tied with 90% of every AAA-ish studio in the world in this regard
Speculation it is!
That’s cool, I guess. I do spend most of my gaming money on indies for this reason (even though many indies are turning out to be bad). I would rather have lists of “confirmed bad AAA” vs “speculatively bad AAA” for my once a year AAA title buying, tho.
Sexism, racism, transphobia, bad working conditions, and lying a lot, are all problems of CDPR. None of those are unique problems. They aren’t the only sexist game developer, nor the only transphobic game developer, nor the only game developer with bad working conditions, and they certainly aren’t the first game developer to pull a Molyneux. They aren’t even the only company to double down on their problematic behavior when people point it out.
If they are unique in any way it is only in their managing to merge all the problems together.
We know CDPR are acting in bad faith. We know they are bad in just about every way a game company can be and that Cyberpunk 2077 will be both a product and example of this. We should not buy it.
That the game also happens to look boring and terrible, thankfully makes that easier.
Wasn’t a law passed in Japan fairly recently to prohibit overnight working? I definitely remember something like that
I’m sorry, but the Japanese government* enforcing a labor restriction on work hours is fantastical. If such a law was passed it’s strictly a CYA measure so they can shrug when someone drops dead at their keyboard.
* or most governments? but “the nail that sticks out,” don’t cause trouble for people, etc. are real social norms that make action around this difficult.
there is no ethical gaming under capitalism
The trains literally stop at midnight so people have an excuse to stop working and go home.
someone’s gotta do a kill the noise style spoof on the score and soundtrack video:
this is probably the best thing kill the noise has ever done tbh
I assume anything seemingly non problematical just hasn’t been interrogated enough
just go to rutracker and type the name of the game and “gog” and torrent that
yeah the site is in russian and you need to make an account but just pretend it’s a fucking myst puzzle or some shit
in the future, there are somehow still magazines
milfgaard is hilarious. i might have been wrong to write this game off.
