Comic Books, Graphic Novels, Sequential Art, & you

Made it to the end of Watchmen. I kinda get it now. All the noise does eventually tie in to everything to mirror Dr Manhattan’s perspective being that of ours the readers. I need to revist 2 or 3 more of the prose accessories to finish up. I do feel like there’s a bit of a blind spot for me in terms of the setting. I find myself still wishing to view the early days of masks and capes just to really send home the farce of it all for this world.

unfortunately its only fascist tintin vs the communards thats getting public domain next year. It’ll take another 6 years before we get a tintin that is recognizable and not totally offensive to all senses

OH dang it oh well I’ve kinda been off Tintin since I learned about all that anyway, Popeye’s the one for me ^ _^

The battle of good and evil will be waged between the people who want to make a Popeye vs Tintin where Popeye is the hero (good) and those who want to make Tintin the hero (evil)

would Alan Moore’s recent Moon & Serpent Bumper Book of Magic be germane to this thread?

not exactly a graphic novel, but it does have comics!

it’s stylistically based on annuals, part of the british comics tradition, so yes

I’ve read a decent chunk of EC comics now, still a lot to go through and I’m early on in all the runs I’m checking out. But I think by far the least interesting artist and writer is Feldstein. His stories are annoying and unserious, schmucky. In the other hand Wally Wood is my favorite. His art is great and the stories show that he’s done research and thought about how to do a bit more with the twist formula they rely on so much.

Al Williamson is one that has stood out to me as I also go through the collections.

Feel free to post about it. I don’t think we need to worry too much about thread purity.
