it’s so good, it gets way better as it goes too - i definitely prefer it to girls’ last tour. the fan translation is fine-but-not-ideal and glt’s official translation was fantastic so i also hope it gets localized, though it probably won’t find the same following even if it does.
Look at that justice mech, it’s super stupid! I loved it.
Anyway much of it made no sense to me and it ended in a huge wet fart (“oh we fixed everything lol”) but I liked the way it tried to tell a homestuck level story with only ~2.5% of the pages (I did the math (approximately))
I also read Mann and Superman which was extremely cute, that was on the list. I thought it was pretty good and the first time I understood why anyone likes Superman. He just tries so dang hard!!!
I have an oversized Stray Bullets hardcover nestled in between my giant Krazy Kat and Popeye books. That’s very much a ‘one of these things is not like the other’ situation. I bought it for cheap as a child and for years I kept it on a stool next to my drawing board. I’d keep my pens and ink and tools and such upon it. It’s got drops of india ink all over it. I cannot tell you whether or not the book is good; as a kid my thoughts were “This guy got really hyped for Tarantino, huh.” This may or may not have been unfair. I did not consider it a compliment at the time. I believe the artist was very young when he drew it, and it was also self published (which is cool), and it was his first non superhero/scifi work (also cool, we didn’t need more superhero comics in the 90s, we also don’t need any more now). I believe it was his followup to Warriors of Plasm, a comic book about beautiful people made out of green goo. The first issue of Warriors of Plasm was #0, and it was released exclusively in trading card format – you had to collect all the cards, and then assemble them into pages, and then you could finally appreciate this real downer of a story about a (literally) slimy aristocrat’s lost love.
Yeah I owned all those cards, think I may still have them in my closet, wanna come over and hang?
Anyway posting this again to say read the Hernandez Bros, or Cromartie High School, forget about all other comics until you’ve completed these instructions, thank you, comics should be by and for fuckin psychos, amen
Read Weathercraft last night instead of sleeping, I really enjoyed it a lot. I made Alicia read it and she liked it a lot too. I’m sure everyone here knows about Jim Woodring but this was all new to me and I’ll probably buy a copy of it if it’s not ridiculously expensive.
I read “A Contract With God” by Will Eisner, I can’t say that I liked it exactly but it’s certainly stuck in my head! It’s nice to read something that’s a little more difficult to place neatly into any one category.
Already got my money’s worth out of this tablet IMO.
I re-read “Phantom Blood” but the color version this time. It’s much nicer to read this on a real-sized screen instead of my fucking phone!!!
I love that story, it’s so dumb and I like that it’s much more horror-adjacent than later JoJo stuff. The coloring is okay - I might prefer the original though. I do not like the colored text boxes at all, but the rest is pretty good and makes certain scenes easier to understand.
I adore Speedwagon whose main role is to cry about how manly and virtuous his friend is. Very relatable.
Oh yeah thanks for reminding me of this!! I’ve definitely been meaning to read this. It’s on the list now.
Oh Gotham Academy looks great!! I’ll add the other two as well - I’ve always wanted to understand the appeal of sonic comics specifically.
realised i’d never read all of akira, so got around to it
it’s kind of not very good, drawings aside?
i think the rewriting for the movie makes it the better product
fujimoto did a new oneshot reflecting on our relationship with art and trauma and memory (again). i have a lot of thoughts and feelings about it. i think its really good. kinda wanna go re-read Look Back now
hilariously i have only read these from him, i still havent read chainsaw man
I really liked the writing in the comics and thought the movie was overstuffed. I like all this story having the room to breathe and I adore the way the characters change over the course of the full narrative
oh Jesus christ you weren’t kidding. I was amazed at the restraint of not listing real movies he liked until the very end. it COULD have got all greg turkington but it didn’t, it just RUINED ME INSTEAD
the part where they revealed his mom was abusive and I was like OH NO ITS LIKE MY MOM who is not doing well and I have been thinking about how ill remember her mean ass after she passes oh I can’t handle this! what a great comic
