I canceled my Steam Deck preorder. It was buyer’s remorse waiting to happen, even though I love the overall concept.

They’re due to start shipping to people with reservations next month, per recent reports. Hence why I was deciding to shit or get off the pot

yeah I still feel like, out of all the limited run preorder hardware, this is the most easily substituted and therefore flimsiest hype, but I know a lot of people seem to disagree!
I totally get someone looking at the Steam Deck and other, similar options and going, “ah, it’s no big deal, I can get in later”
said similar options start at the same cost as the highest tier of Deck
at which point you might as well start looking at a dedicated laptop and let go of the handheld dream
I’m continually surprised by this old laptop handling just about whatever the hell I can throw at it (I have to turn graphics settings down some, to be sure, but I don’t mind) anyway. I mostly don’t play all the latest AAA graphics-card crushers anyway

The power to price ratio of the steam deck is pretty insane even before you consider the unique form factor. They’re barely breaking even on cost and are leaning into “people will buy more games if they get this” territory.
Pretty interested to see where this goes even though I don’t have a preorder. I hope it pushes more LoFi steam games and encourages lospec gamedev

My pc can’t seem to stream to discord when running unity. I don’t know if I need an upgrade or how to even find out. Tbh I have a hard time w discord audio and unity simultaneously

before I realized windows doesn’t recognize pre-1980 date information, I had gone through my entire silent film folder. I was able to find specific release dates for everything in there. but it seems impossible to find release dates any more specific than the year for a lot of pre-1995/6 videogames

there wasn’t official street dates for games before MK2 and Sonic 2. It was just a matter of them getting shipped out when there was enough product to fill a shipment. It would be different days in different regions and there wasn’t a pre-order culture. Stuff just came out when tey could get it out and nobody cared about specifics. Hell, most movies didn’t open at the same time in all markets until the mid 90s either

Something changed with the Apple TV YouTube app to where it won’t get a signal to my HDMI ARC soundbar until I play audio through a different app to “wake” the soundbar (???)

soundbars are one product category I have continued to ignore despite actually trying to assess their value at one point and just giving up
I’m all-in on bluetooth audio and projectors and I just could not figure out how the heck a soundbar was gonna do anything for me
