So is this a Computers Are Stupid thing or a Chill Mikey Computers Can’t Read Your Mind thing, or a Mikey Just Press (Key Combination) to Fix That You Fool

My setup is one laptop with a janky old monitor connected via a VGA cable. What happens sometimes is, I’ll have a window open in the external monitor (e.g., Word). I close that window, and at some later time disconnect the monitor because I’m taking my laptop away from the desk. Then I try to reopen Word and the laptop tries to open the window in a display that is no longer connected! The icon is there on the taskbar, the program is clearly running, god help me if I can get it to display on the laptop. The only solution is to go plug in the external monitor and drag the window onto the laptop display.

This can’t be right! There’s gotta be another way.

Shift+Win+arrow key will move a window to the next monitor in the direction of the arrow

shift-rightclick on taskbar, ‘Move’, tap an arrow key, wiggle mouse

You can also use shift+space and then select move and use the cursor keys to bring it back

All you have to do is go into the 11 default apps dialogue box and make another browser your default

And then again for links

And again for html files

….and again for PDFs

….and again for searches from the Start menu

….and I think there might be a few more broken out

I’m pretty sure I can’t get my mouse 4/5 working on this Razer mouse in macOS at all because Razer doesn’t have a macOS version of Synapse and macOS doesn’t recognize mouse 4/5 without additional software. I hate the computer.

hey my friend’s after a laptop for like, word processing, browsing, and ideally video editing, but is also on a pretty tight budget rn. is there anything that’s a good fit right now? they were hoping for like… half the price of what it looks like M1 Airs are rn, but how realistic is that? would the Air do video editing for youtube ok if it came to that?
