And no, just WSL improvements alone will not sway me, i shall surv… stay strong!
M1X is like a 5800x + 1070 in 30w, not bad
400GB/s main memory.
it’s very exciting that generational improvements on early 2010s Intel performance are finally here
Especially since I really don’t need one of these yet and they’re just gonna get more powerful
Where did you get those numbers?
back of napkin / top of my head comparison with the benchmarks they provided
I’m hearing it’s comparable to a 6700XT (like 3060/3070 range), but idk! There’s like a half dozen CPU/GPU configs and its’ kind of confusing.
I sure picked a good week to tell work what computer to buy for me
120hz and mini LED
cool
what games can I play on it
curated iphone ports for $5 a month
more or less anything that doesn’t use the AVX instruction set
goddamn, 2000 bucks for the finest looking and running horse daughters experience
it’s enough to make a grown man weep in joy
have spent most of my leisure time the last year playing with python, coming from being unable to code beyond bash scripts, recently decided ok maybe i will get into js
which lead to me reading about the left-pad incident, incredible
s/o to Felix for the tip that Apple Books is absurdly good for managing PDFs, good lord is it the best
yesss I keep the manuals for everything in there, if I need to look up some obscure shit in my BIOS or how to toggle the weird extra modes of our air con the manual is there, so much easier than navigating manufacturers’ sites every time
oh my god they brought function keys back
I need a laptop capable of 3D game development and as GPUs have gotten hotter this has narrowed to XTREME GAMER machines only which is unacceptable. This would be in a class by itself if it just worked with any software I need.
those new GPUs look good (hell, you can finally get a seriously high-performance GPU in a small model), but of course come with the caveat that OpenGL is going away soon so who knows what’ll work in a few years
Looks like a good laptop but I’m mildly disappointed by how beefy and heavy it seems, I guess because I’m not a “Pro”. I’m realizing lately that what I really want is a 15/16 inch MacBook Air (I want lots of screen, minimum weight, and I only need moderate amounts of computing power). I wonder if that market will be properly filled by anyone. I guess it’s too niche for Apple to bother.
yeah I totally agree, the current 13-inch M1 Air is absolutely fantastic (it’s what I use for both my main personal and work computers) and whip-fast, but I’m curious what the future holds for it, especially given how the base model of the 14-inch Pro is much higher in price now, perhaps the future holds a couple of sizes of Air?
EDIT: Also I literally don’t have to think about the battery, I just charge it every couple of days, it’s so good, I really hope they don’t slip backwards on that front
On the PC side there are tons of non-pro 15"ers and I’m encouraged by Apple briefly providing a variety of screen sizes without performance drawbacks on the iPhone.
I’m in for a 14"er, just gotta decide if any CTO options are worth it. It would seem not?
