Chamber of Sacred Ootheca - The Metal Thread

Now I have to come in and say after further research, it’s actually The Cramps; that’s no knock on either Deftones or Cake though.

The thread title demands this

Remember when Dio organized metal’s We Are the World, and it was 7 minutes long to accommodate all the guitar and drum solos?

I’ve never seen this version with the credits before and I guess that guy who could have been Micheal Mckean or David Coverdale was indeed the former.

some napalm death!!! i think a number of folks on this forum would likely recognize track 1 from the mortal kombat movie soundtrack, heh. this was probably the peak of their venture into more of a '90s death metal style, before they bounced back toward a grindcore sound that didn’t exactly recapture their origins (with other vocalists who would move on to godflesh, cathedral, and just plain obscurity), but still left this album as a weird bastard child most grind maniacs would shun forever. it’s still one of my favorites of theirs, even as someone who likes scum and the other early albums. as a teenager who already liked death metal, when i heard that this band was GRIND, i thought this terming was really just about their guitar sound, which (despite the lack of constant blastbeats and overall rawness of production) was immense and heavier than so much else i’d heard by that time (aside from, like, morbid angel and obituary)…

i’ll never forget some of my punk/goth friends laughing about the cookie monster vox and laughing along with them, but i think barney’s delivery is just perfect for this era of napalm death and honestly i wish he still sounded like this even on their more recent stuff.

i know pple think they’re corny now but i still revisit this album along with my arms, your hearse b/c i still think they both sound nice ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@zeno it’s been awhile since i’ve heard insect warfare. i thought that since i like grind more than i used to that i’d vibe with them but i. . .do not like the vocals. the grunting annoys me i guess? it just makes me think i’m listening to some sort of parody every time. it’s like listening to dethklok’s mermaider on repeat lmao. it sucks b/c i like everything else going on. this was my first impression of them too. figured i’d feel differently now but nope.

napalm death is cool. i should listen to them more.
