Catching Up with PS4

Looking at this list it looks like Xbone still gets regular releases alongside current gen versions but there don’t appear to be as many compared to PS4/5, especially not for bigger name games but you still some of those occasionally. For instance, WWE 2k25 is getting an Xbone along with the Series version.

Less demand, plus less support from Japanese publishers.

IIRC when the Marvel vs Capcom collection was announced and missing from Xbox entirely, the issue that was brought up was that Microsoft no longer accepted games to be submitted as purely Xbox One releases. You had to make a smart delivery package with both Xbox One and Series builds, even if the Xbox One build would run fine on Series.

I think an exception was granted for the collection.

Apparently a major reason why it was last-gen only was because the engine Capcom used is not supported on PS5 or Series

we were given a ps4 recently which helps me access some stuff i’ve had since long ago and also we can play bloodborne, but i am curious what exactly is available on it that can’t be played on a computer (steam deck)

what i know is:

-the gravity rushes

-last guardian

-vanillaware games

-bloodborne

-déraciné (and some way less important vr games)

housemarque games (resogun is amazing)

arcade archives releases are superior to mame in some instances (outfoxies) and not on PC

Dreams is definitely worth a look. I’ve been meaning to check in on what people have done with it since I last opened it.

similarly, M2’s PS4 battle garegga port is the best way to play that game. there’s nothing wrong with garegga emulation, and you can run head/preemptive frames to cut down on the PCB’s input lag, but the ps4 port also gives you real time rank tracking and bullet visibility options. those are both big deals for that game unless you’re a total sicko. you get the arrange OST as well, which is not as good as the original but does have a few standouts. the other shot triggers releases are great too, but they are more luxury offerings

Yeah Dreams is the major one and should have been free and on every ps4.

All of Housemarque’s stuff is awesome or at least neat in concept. Resogun is legit. Nex Machina has tons of cool particle effects. I didn’t play Alienation or Matterfall.

There’s the Wipeout Collection (can also be played in VR).

Shadow of the Colossus remake.

The Knack games are totally worth checking out on sale.

Uhhh Infamous Second Son might still be exclusive? If you’re curious to see what Sucker Punch were doing before the Ghost games. Infamous was an open worlder series where you had super powers. It was alright.

The Order: 1886 is still one of the best looking games. Very short too.

Killzone: Shadowfall is a Killzone with bigger levels than normal.

Apparently there is a Fist of the North Star game from the Yakuza developers?

It’s pretty alright. It’s really just a Yakuza game set in the FotNS universe in terms of structure, but that is OK. The main VAs from the Japanese RgG games voice the FotHS characters and you can get an outfit to just make Kiryu the main character. I wouldn’t pay a ton for it, but it is worth a look.

I would say it is a bad RgG game but in the sea of video games bad RgG is still very good (but you could do better.)

The best thing about it is the sound effects becoming weapons sometimes that you can pick up and beat dudes up with, probably.
