anyone can dj with a digital setup. it’s easy easy easy and I’ve managed to put together what I consider to be great sets with less than a hundred bucks worth of equipment. it’s mostly about taste

the hardware (got for about 80 bucks used). but honestly? you can make just about any midi device work if it has a few knobs and sliders. or even just do it with you mouse, it’s harder but possible to do!

Miwa Watabiki (綿引 美和, Watabiki Miwa; born January 13, 1968), better known by her stage name Chara (ちゃら), is a Japanese singer, actress and video jockey. She debuted in 1991 with the single Heaven . She is known for her song “Swallowtail Butterfly (Ai no Uta)”, the theme song for the 1996 Shunji Iwai film Swallowtail Butterfly in which she starred, her 1997 hit single “Yasashii Kimochi”, and her collaboration with Judy and Mary vocalist Yuki, “Ai no Hi Mittsu Orange”. Chara later formed a band with Yuki, called Mean Machine.
Some context needed because her five character name makes finding English information about her hard.
I was watching a video about the PaRappa the Rapper anime OST. And I noticed at the back of the case, that they licensed a Chara song, Ai no Kizuna, as an insert song that you hear in Episode 4 when PJ and Paula go out on a tiny date. Chara did later find her way in the anime proper with the second ED. I only saw a few clips and random subtitled episodes of the PaRappa anime years ago, when the anime was incomplete and really hard to come by outside Japan. I was very surprised to hear Chara in an anime. You usually hear her songs in drama series and movies. If you ever need a good reason to play her music or look for the PaRappa anime, you have got one now.
Unfortunately, the YouTube upload for the 4th episode, had to mute Chara’s song for the copyright takedown issue and strike, if you really want to get the song in its right context you are going to need to watch it in another site.

If you have any doubt that you live in the best possible timeline to watch the PaRappa anime.
This upload keeps the Chara insert song intact (both instances!), but the subs are gone whenever the song is played, because, I don’t know, magic. Song starts at 15:24.

HELL YEAG FADO i like the PaRappa anime alright, it doesn’t really have the same vibe as the games (iirc he doesnt even rap at all in it lol) but it’s cute and fun. i fuckin love its OPs and EDs though

I like Lauren Child’s sketchy designs. I own a copy of her illustrated version for Pippi Longstcking. Autumn is the only time living in my state is not shit; not too cold, not too hot. Though you have to look out in hurricane season, because when they land, they really fuck your house if it is not made with strong materials. I enjoy how autumn and Halloween are tied together here.
I hate most American culture, having been around it for over 25 years plus 12 years by proxy in my country. But Halloween always makes me happy. Ties nicely with goth music and emo music. Orange, yellow, brown, and grey colour themes. I still prefer hip hop, r&b, jazz, soul, funk, and other African American influenced genres.
But when the autumn and Halloween stuff hit stores, I like to go back to my goth and emo records, while staying in my usual genres. I think my dream album would be a neo-soul, jazz rap, acid jazz, nu jazz, jazz pop, vocal jazz, hip hop soul, uk street soul, conscious hip hop, soul jazz, afro-jazz, etc. album that captures what autumn and Halloween can feel like.
Over the Garden Wall captures the Dixieland sound for a 19th Century and 20th Century rural setting, but that is still very much old timey jazz and ragtime. I want something that sounds and feels modern, even with genres like nu disco, electrotango, or electro swing, if needed. Like how the sound tracks for 2nd Impact and 3rd Strike sound very 1998 and 1999.
Like how The Wiz did something cool turning a pre World War I setting like The Wizard of Oz into a very '70s era movie. I know Horrorcore is a genre, but most Horrorcore lyrics are scary and disturbing rather than the spooky and autumnal vibe I like in my songs.
I think the closest I could get to those genres being tied together in practice are sound track albums like the Blood Blockade Battlefront (& Beyond) and Michiko & Hatchin which feel both for an old and a new setting; time period.

The show had a Gaelic dub from 07-09
But if it is anything like other Gaelic dubs from BBC Alba, that means no one is ever going to lay eyes on the episodes. Gaelic dubs are rarely for you to have in DDL or torrents. They are usually lost media, because they don’t get archived or preserved in any useful way. That really pisses me off. The highlight of yesterday was finding out the dub existed, just to find out no one could be fucked to make the dub available in the future. At least we still get the episode titles.

i don’t want to overstate anything but i’m pleasantly surprised the trendline with this show has been up rather than down, this episode was easily my favorite. fun animation for its own sake, slightly less internet humor and YA writing. forcefem gags in a children’s show in 2025 is probably some kind of praxis

imo this is a depressed college student/Young Adult show. not enough gags or action for kids, candified Disney visuals make it look childish but it’s teen at best

Are there more autumn / fall themed animation canon that are not Halloween? Like, the game Night in the Woods takes place in autumn, it has a Halloween story, but it is not a Halloween game because that part of the story is small compared to the full game. I don’t want to watch anything from my Halloween list until October, when I spend the last three months of the year doing so. But right now I just need something else instead to focus away from what is going on in my life.
I found a PDF of the Gaelic version of The Little Prince, which helps with my thoughts, because I can’t always look at Learn Gaelic and Speak Gaelic for work. I usually avoid anything people offline might want to talk to me about, because I have bad experiences with being bullied, picked on, mocked, and ridiculed over my other interests.
Anything too scholar or academic has kept people at work away and no one gives me shit about it in public places like my commune or being around my relatives. I can browse RYM, Discogs, last.fm, record club, etc. to my heart’s content, but music invites people that gives you shit for it, if you listen to the “wrong” kind of music, or are not part of the skin colour they associate with Asian music or Black music.
“Dumb” for listening to music on other languages, even in a genre you share with this person. Like, I enjoy hip hop and r&b in other languages, but I can always get derision and snide replies, because normies offline where I have lived, assume foreign media is for the snobs or people who want to feel and look superior. I just really like how the style in hip hop, r&b, jazz, soul, disco, funk, blues, reggae, trip hop, house, etc. has reached other countries and how they try to convey it through their culture. Some with good results (you respect and pay tribute to the culture) and some with bad results (you don’t respect nor pay tribute to the culture).
I play Snoopy Concert (SNES) a lot when I am upset, because I feel that is a good example, taking a concept as American as Peanuts, and making a game that looks and sounds exactly as its source material, for a Japanese audience. That is a far cry to the 1969 and 1971 Moomin anime, which looks good (and does have some cool and fun episodes), but the characters are wrong, they deviate too much in how they are in the source material. That can happen to a music genre rooted in a culture by an ethnic group using music as a creative outlet and voice.
There is a good video about it, so it is not the right thread or place for it, but I do feel foreign adaptations of media do get a lot of unjust hate. The Czech version of Alice in Wonderland or The Beauty and the Beast are adaptations that clearly know the source material, but get ignored for not following them like other versions. It is like the Soviet Winnie the Pooh, it is not a substitute to the Milne books (neither is Disney),
But it is a good take on the same shit. You just need to keep an open mind, but that is not a thing where I live for now. Just think how many dubs have tried to erase the Japanese culture in anime and imagine this done to music you care about. So I avoid talking and sharing it offline, because people had more than once been shit to my other hobbies and interests. No safe space.
I have played many other games that were based and/or influenced by how Peanuts looks, but I feel very few can capture how Schulz wrote or how the animated versions look, because they just do in a boring copy way. Like you can see how some indie games want to be like games the authors grew up with, but they miss how those original games were designed. It is not about making them look and sound like the influence, you have to make in a way that it felt you made it your own work. Snoopy Concert has done it just right.

It would be great if the Peanuts gang also visit Brasil, Portugal (especially Tras-os-Montes), Spain (especially Galicia, Cantabria, and Asturias) or Brittany. I mean, yeah, they already flew to France, and that is my best of the Peanuts theatrical movies, but they did not go to Brittany. Did you know most of Milk and Kisses was recorded in Pors Poulhan? Robin Guthrie was seeing and living with Florence, his future wife, who was native to the region.

Finished Fujiko Mine, and while I was afraid the overarching story would collapse by threatening to establish a traumatic backstory for Fujiko–the last third is easily the least fun third–the ending fortunately becomes something else entirely, in a way that I was quite pleased by. The nudity…was there, and never felt like it existed for a reason other than “the director is a boob man” (see also: Redline). Now, it’s on to the Lupin OVA’s by the same director. If nothing else, they’ll be stylish.
