yeah lightning bending becoming widespread was kind of wild but guys using it to put in a shift at the power plant was neat

The robot made of platinum was the silliest thing. I think it wouldâve been an easier sale if it was the big robot spider from Wild Wild West.

i remember being frustrated at the pacing of s1 i know that show got fucked around by execs thru its whole run and s1 itself got cut down from full season to miniseries sometime in development, but it felt like instead of adapting to that and tightening the focus they just⌠cut out half the episodes. spending inordinate time on the pro bending subplot (which i found boring anyway) and just kinda walking circles around the equalist plot until it wraps up hastily at the end (with the villains being taken out in a murder-suicide! dark yes dramatically satisfying nah)
S2 felt like it was fumbling around trying to figure out how to be a continuing series and Korra herself really started to annoy me. apparently i stopped right before it starts to improve but like⌠they had an arc and a half to get me invested and failed. willing to give it another shot sometime but ive been saying that for years lol, iâd be more likely to rewatch AtLA first
the one thing i remember liking is Aangâs son Tenzin and his family of Last Airbenders. partly cuz JK Simmons is very good, partly cuz its weird and sad (in a good way) to have to grapple with the chipper kid protagonist of the OG series growing up and dying, its an interesting direction for an animated sequel series to go (Adventure Time and its sequel specials eventually explored similar ground to great effect imo, as did Steven Universe Future (the growing up part at least))

Finished Somali and the Forest Spirit, a very pleasant show to put on while debilitatingly high.
I liked it!
Probably due to it only getting one season, it ultimately doesnât really amount to anything, and while itâs got a good source of drama, none of it coheres to where you might be emotionally affected by it.
Wanted this to be sadder, and to earn the sad more.
I want to nominate the human dad of the bird girl for Most Anime Guy of 2024 for KILLING AND EATING HER BIOLOGICAL MOTHER, AND THEN FEEDING THE CORPSE TO HIS WIFE AND KIDS, KILLING THEM. Just a real 10th inning crank of the tragedy dial out of nowhere.

on what is in aggregate probably my 4th rewatch of dennoh coil in the space of a year. revisiting this show is unreasonably FRUSTRATING! having to come to terms with it being basically a decent but uneven show with good ideas that becomes increasingly heavy-handed n clumsy past/approaching the halfway point and ends disappointingly, instead of the borderline mystical experience me of six months ago apparently took it to be�? thinking about it makes me wistful⌠this the REAL warmth that should be there when i reach out to touch that is an illusion of my childhood (i.e. six months ago when i first watched and read too much into it)
