Cartoons (Part 1)

,

Disenchantment is getting an occasional chuckle out of me. It’s a good show for when I want something sorta mindless to zone out with.

Yeah, I don’t not like it but it definitely doesn’t have the zest or zing of Futurama and kinda feels like it drags in most episodes. Bean’s character goes back a forth a bit to much to feel like there’s a natural arc for her most of the time.

I do want to see a new season now that alot of characters have moved on and found new things to do.

That looks awful?

did the success(?) of rwby convince everyone that they should do bad looking 3d animes. the godzilla stuff, genlock, ultraman, dragon prince, ghost in the shell. none of them really look as good as a tekken 3 cutscene

two things to note, this is the studio’s first anime, and also the director does live action and hired a staff that does live action

Cybersix is my favorite cartoon cancelled after one season

Not without flaws but where else can I find a cartoon about a nonbinary superhero in a weird argentine-gothic city fighting a child-clone nazi while trying to resolve the origins of her existence

Neat little piece of world-building from Disenchantment – swamp kingdom gondolas pulled by stilt-walkers

That’s a pretty nice touch, good job concept artists

(I mean maybe that’s inspired by something from the real world but I’m not finding anything with a cursory Googling)

my bad take on Disenchantment is that it’s not funny enough to be a good comedy and not naratively strong enough to be the epic it wants to be

also they haven’t said anything about a new part which is concerning because it ends on an even bigger cliffhanger than the first part does

hey Symphogear came out on bluray in America a couple of weeks ago and I got my copy today and just fuckin spent all day watching that shit and the show still owns and also the bluray is good because they sub all the songs and punched up Chris’s dialogue a bit

That’s my good take on it. Felt like a limp Futurama.

Rewatching Sailor Moon S

I love the little moments when the show undermines the outer sailors’ pose of adult cool

Sat down and watched Patlabor Movie 1 and 2 with some friends. 1 is a solid movie but kinda funny when looking back on what a day 1 patch could solve so much trouble. Movie 2 has to be one of the most self-indulgent things I’ve seen in awhile. It’s fun to watch Goto go around and get things done but that’s a lot of movie to watch for a kinda just ok robot action sequence. It felt alot like practice for Ghost in the Shell.

watching the spawn hbo adaptation (unfortunately)
here’s some highlights
spawn thinking about his ex-wife having sex w/ another man

the villain of episode 2 is a cyborg named over-kill who calls spawn gay, famously designed in 20 minutes by the incredible duo of rob liefeld and todd macfarlane

spawn breaks into a cia facility to steal guns

i don’t think theres any good context i could provide for this last one

depressing but interesting to see all the different takes on trying to impersonate the late russi taylor on ducktales, mickey mouse, the simpsons. feels kinda like right after mel blanc died and the looney tunes voices started to go all over the place

for some reason, the action figure of over-kill that was part of the very first series of spawn figures (that me and my friends got for £1 each from a discount supermarket!) was named overtkill.
even to our child minds, that sounded stupid, and we somehow interpreted his name as being over t. kill
