I think you’re miscalibrated, little witch academia is more anime than Samurai Champloo, not less anime than everything.
Little Witch Academia was really cute and just what I needed for my sick day
Yeah I wonder about that. I think this intro was pretty smart because - let’s assume for a moment this show isn’t just for die hard fans that know the manga verbatim - in the same episode Angelo is introduced, and it would not be too hard to guess that’s him instead. Anyway good call to have the main character the first thing in the show.
don’t watch Kill la Kill
you made quite the typo there!
for me kill la kill is kate beaton’s Strong Female Characters given anime form & void
its an extended exercise in passing off fanservice tna as sex positivity. theres a really sleazy rape culture undercurrent to a lot of the plot points & dialogue. hate hate hated it.
possible caveat: i went into it predisposed to hate it (i’d seen screencaps of the kamui, etc.). also it frontloads a lot of its worst parts (though there is a really awful scene later in the series that is “justified” by being explicitly villainous). it has a cool art style and ryuko+mako are great characters. there are probably other individual good things i could pick out of the show. not enough to wash the bad taste out of my mouth, though.
Just watch Gurren Lagann instead, it has all the same good with much less of the bad.
Kill la kill was a lot of fun, the commitment to the stupid premise was great.
Oh, there’s going to be another Working!! show about a different Wagnaria
This is what I get for not wanting, I get good things, duly noted universe
PSO2 is over. The day was saved by the power of love and friendship. Itsuki goes inside the Falz and has to find Rina because she could be anywhere inside the giant dark butterfly and do you get it, huh, he has to find her, it’s just like when she was a kid and she was forgotten and then some boy found her and now Itsuki has to find her and then he remembers the past and he was the one to find her and do you get it yet, huh, he finds her by remembering this and the show is just grabbing you by the shoulders and shaking you and making sure you get that this vital piece of foreshadowing has finally paid off. Also, he never confesses.
Sega reference of the week: Pepperouchou from Clockwork Knight shows up on a folder. Now let’s never speak of this cartoon again.
Now rest, Bov Not.
Let me also point out that, somehow, I’m extremely disappointed that the ending to the show wasn’t “To be continued… IN PSO2”, yet somehow still tried to sell the idea of online games in general
(This isn’t from the last episode, but the first to be clear. It had an agenda the whole run. I mean besides being an ad.)
Kill la Kill’s commitment to its premise and tone was fine-ish with me since it felt like a throwback to things like Cutie Honey. But as goofy as it wanted to be, and even considering how much space the viewer is meant to put between themselves and the “laws” of KLK’s universe, having an early episode reach it’s moral and conclusion of “lack of consent is whatever just chill lol” made me feel sick. Also yeah I didn’t like the incestuous stuff later on being thrown in for edginess sake.
Even if that stuff wasn’t in there, the show’s “famed breakneck pace!” left me unable to care about anything going on because I didn’t get enough time to actually soak up a moment. The whole series felt like it lacked an editor.
A more “aware” KLK could really have done interesting stuff with its sexual theme, but it was just too hetero.
KLK really lost its way (you shut up) pretty quickly after the Fight Club episode, when it stopped being fun episodic cartoon nonsense and started trying to have an actual plot.
You know, I put KlK at the end of that list for a reason
If anything, KlK has a ton of fat and needed to be shorter precisely so it wouldn’t have fallen into the trap of “Hey, we had a bunch of fun world building episodes, now on to our nonsensical plot” and instead focus on something that was saner. There’s like, the starting point of a decent plot in what they did, but uh, way too much meandering and whatnot.
Also, child molestation is the new puppy kicking guys, how else would we know Ragyo is evil
don’t take me too seriously here
She looked similar to Cruella de Ville, noted puppy killer kicker. :V
I’ve gotten around to watching Magic User’s Club, the OVA. It’s absurdly nice to look at. The animation is so lively and dynamic, it has an inexplicable pre-opening animation by Itano to start each episode, Junichi Sato and Chiaki Konaka collaborated on the project. The only drawback is the constant pervert humor pervading it, and even that seems tame by 2016 moe standards.
Flamenco was pretty great, outside of some terrible animation in the second half.
I do want to say that “Before My Body is Dry” makes up for a lot of lesser shortcomings because goddamn that song is as killer as it is clunky.
i gotta find out who killed my dad
this is the way to be more strong
the second opening is also really good. I bumped that shit for a good while.
I never thought this day would come where Clockwork Knight would be referenced in the modern age.
Also thank you for your noble sacrifice.
I think my main complaint about The Peanuts Movie is whoa guys, you aren’t supposed to see the Little Red-Haired Girl
Seriously, after watching it, it looks really nice once you get past the uncanny valley-ness of seeing the characters as they’ve always looked except now you can see every single strand of Peppermint Patty’s hair in glorious high fidelity and they went a long way towards recreating the look of the original set of specials and early movies in CGI, which just continues to beg the question “Why not have the whole thing in 2D animation if you’re going to lovingly fake the look anyway?”. Also, there’s barely any plot (this could probably be condensed into a 30 min special) and it does the thing where it goes down the list of Peanuts Jokes You Expect, Even That One. But it’s a fun, cute little thing and it’s definitely a Peanuts story and the kids they got to voice do a good job while sounding like the old crew.
