Eizouken is an absolute delight so far, i knew i’d like it even before i watched it and it still won my heart in like the first 5 minutes
All 3 of the main characters are so likable but i AM Midori. the way she’ll get excited about something just because it looks visually interesting, or break down a process of animation in a way that communicates such passion for the medium, is really relatable and endearing. Like her rant essentially about why Future Boy Conan is so fucking good filled me with joy
Kanamori definitely gets the best lines though. And i want her backpack.
So Mob Psycho isn’t about a disturbed person who works in organized crime, but about a psychic boy named Mob?
An otherwise ordinary psychic boy, yes. He does get into organized strength training with a gang, though!
but really it’s about practicing good mental hygene
I adore Eizouken. The ending felt a little anticlimactic (considering how mindbendy and boundary-pushing the endings of Yuasa’s series usually are), presumably in part because it’s adapted from an ongoing series. The very last moments felt nice though. The series was at its best when it was highlighting what the world of animation as a medium unlocks for people individually. I feel like the series kind of peaked with episode 7. But man, I’m going to miss these kids a whole lot.
(also glad the world knows chelmico a bit better now)
It’s neat how it conveyed the power of art to inspire other people, in the end. Which gives the whole enterprise this sense of purpose.
the comic has now been licensed. it’s kind of annoying how it seems like a comic needs to have a popular tv adaptation beofre a western company will translate it these days, but better late than never i guess
Dark Horse tends to have pretty good standards in localization, too.
(I should know; I did some of my best work for them!)
hathaway -> harkaway -> harkness
dorohedoro anime is over
i feel mappa did as well as possible given scope of the story, even though i understand people being weirded out by the cg. i hope when this lands in netflix everywhere the manga will see a boost in new fans; would love to see one of my favorite comics being enjoyed by more people
It kinda gets me that Diebuster is retro these days. Time sure flies.
us and canada only. another pro-piracy company!
The last of these fanmade shorts has been completed and they’ve been really solid and worth a watch.
gal and dino shares the manic multimedia approach, alternate versions of the same story, and letting that french guy make a short with pop team epic but it is not quite as wild…yet
i watched a bunch of armor hunter mellowlink and beastars in the same day
mellowlink is awesome, its such a videogame that every episode is called a STAGE. mellowlink lovingly fingers the barrel of his rifle CONSTANTLY, he runs while reloading, he twirls his GIGANTIC BULLETS between his fingers like david bowie in the labyrinth with those glass balls, he does all this climbing shit with his HUUUGE gun and the anime will take time to show you exactly how he ties up his gun and equipment to move with mellowlink. every episode he kills a different war criminal in their mecha with a big FUCK YOU SPIKE. like he shoves the spike in the mechas eye socket and shoves it through
beastars is about incredibly horny highschool furries. its basically what if zootopias conflict but HORNIER. theres constant split screens of characters not listening to what eachother are saying and just watching how certain body parts move. there are gratuitous tail shots, there’s a horny rabbit that fucks everyone. there’s wolf pubes. a deer shoves his hand in a wolfs mouth to expose fangs and screams about carnivorous aggression
they are both very detail oriented animes for different kinds of fetishists. i dunno if beastars is for me but i can think of at least a dozen people off the top of my head who will love it so im glad it exists. im still waiting for brand new animal
