Cartoons 3: The Animation

I don’t usually post these many videos in a row. I’m making the exception here, because Beavis & Butt-head rips with those music videos and commercials are rare. Viacom usually strikes down any unofficial uploads from Beavis & Butt-head that triggers their copyright crawlers.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

New Panty and Stocking has wrapped up. I think the first series is a more even watching experience in my memories. This batch felt a little to fast paced with much less room for the characters to breath and settle into anything past their established roles and jokes. Not that this is anything that needs any real character development but S1 would take whole segments to let a character show off a little bit more like Garterbelts origin story and Stocking’s Christmas date. That criticism aside it was still alot of fun if just a little bit more less filling that how I felt about S1. They’re threatening us with more so the ride can continue.

Rewatching Primal and if an adventure cartoon has ever been better than this somebody better let me know because I’m only 41 and I don’t want this to be the peak for the rest of my life

Tartakovsky shared approximately 1 minute of test animation for The Black Knight. He said he and his team started working on this movie six years ago. “We developed it for a few years, the studio liked what we were doing but they were unsure if there is an audience that would go see it theatrically,”

I can fully understand why Tartakovsky didn’t listen to anyone who could’ve warned him that his dog castration movie was a bad idea, because every exec treats his best work like its as terrible an idea as the dog castration movie.

Like, really? Can’t picture an audience wanting to go see this?

Fixed wasn’t that bad of a film. Just a baffling amount of effort for a movie that was for a narrow margin of people. Dog lovers that really like Ren and Stimpy. Not something I’d readily recommend but I enjoy that it is able to exist as opposed to not. Not sure there’s a good way to market it other than putting on some late night block where other weird cartoons gather but these aren’t those times anymore.

I enjoy Gendys work but I always feel his stuff is one step off from being true masterworks of the craft. Always a missing tooth in a cog between tone, scripting and characterization for my tastes. By gum does he go for it most of the time. I can’t ignore that.

God the jokes absolutely do not work in this format do they? It’s such a…literal adaption except for adding different, less interesting, metahumor about like ‘the narrator’ and shit that was worn out when Homestuck was new.

Man, just looking at that thumbnail… like, it took hundreds of pages to even solve the mystery of what Jade looked like, here it’s just a given.

I mean, I guess it’s impossible to reproduce the Homestuck experience and most certainly not even the goal? But that leves us with no choice but an inferior adaptation in a media that necessitates the source be dumbed down. Oh yeah, I guess you can add some meta of the variety that worked oh so well for every homestuck spinoff ever.

Maybe if they devote a full season to the midnight crew intermission (that should be the whole series!), but somehow I doubt that’s gonna happen.

Watched all of Creature Commandos the last day or two. It’s alright.

Kinda clashes a bit with Peacemaker and Superman in that Rick Flag is such a fuck up in this, it’s hard to imagine he’s got any authority afterward.
