3.33 was better than this and they had a slate to do anything.
perhaps its because the original show was emotionally affecting and good and not all about mari’s fat ass being in the direct center frame, or that the rebuild movies have been good to great, its not really a matter of “what did you expect” because theyve never dedicated an entire hour to child pussy before?

i try to just accept that i will never feel remotely comfortable or normal while watching any eva thing including and especially the originals and love it in the ways i can love it even while it makes me nauseous. i also think any attempts to extract a greater textual emotional or philosophical truth from the rebuilds will fail, that aspect is so perfunctory and besides the point imo. genuinely shocked at the negative reaction to the cgi work though, i really think it’s major.

They uh, literally had 14 year old in skintight horny outfits and various states of undress the entire original series.
Like maybe this is worse as a story but it’s literally impossible to argue that wasn’t a huge element of the original show.

A lot of it is visually arresting but I expected this to tell a story in the new world rather than remake EoE while taking every fan-coddling opportunity like it’s god damn MGS4
if anybody really thinks the original eva is vile i advise you to watch 3.0+1.0 because it makes the original show look puritan in comparison…you might actually appreciate it better now! one of the consequences of rebuilding eva is that the cum is load-bearing

We can expect better and 3.33 did not show us a shot of e.g. Asuka trying to sleep in panties and a t-shirt with the “camera” on the ground at her feet and angled at her crotch.
every time i rewatch the original i find the incessant sadism and cruelty towards women infinitely more upsetting than anything in 4, which full disclosure triggered me enough to send me into a sobbing meltdown less than halfway through

so what do you guys think of the like 2 minute scene where asuka, whose been naked for half the movie, rolls around in her underwear with more animation than most of the convos in the past 30 minutes so you can see her thighs and underwear better?
I think it’s gross and that same grossness that put me off from the original series, in fact.

Oh yeah I saw the “We ran out of money” episode of Kare Kanno and thought that was amazing, and I’ve been meaning to watch the rest of it ever since.

The comparison I’m drawing is to 3.33 which did not indulge in fanservice to nearly the degree that 4.0 does. 4.0 feels like a total waste of what 3.33 teed up.

the first 18 episodes of the series before anno stopped directing are easily the best thing he’s ever done
