They’re both pretty ambitious tbh, but in different ways.
Jedi Knight works better and has more polish, but the jankiness of sote almost makes it feel more impressive to me. Like how many features had to be invented from scratch for that game, versus the mostly iterative improvements on earlier fps games in Jedi Knight.
The sheer variety in sote is even more remarkable when you compare it to other early n64 games.
Like for a long time I had only that, Mario kart, and Mario 64
SotE has a special place in my heart for having the ur Battle of Hoth level but also I don’t want to play it again because I know the snapback-style of aiming would drive me up the wall
I know this would change everything because the Rare Replay version of Jet Force Gemini makes the simple change from auto-centering to a more modern control method and suddenly the game is great and playable
Oh baby, I had a ton of fun with the PC version of this in like 2008. It’s so ugly in such a classic MS-DOS kind of way. I remember it being a great time. I’m tempted to pick it up.
OK, so I just bought this for Switch and it is WILDLY unreadable undocked. This game was not made for a tiny screen. The maximalist nature of the game means that you are definitely going to miss a ton of important details on a screen this small. It’ll probably be better on a TV, but this is still unfortunate. I should have seen it coming though.
Yeah I’m real confused at this system, they have to do some kind of firmware/software already for the attachment and the screen is just peak Sony overengineering.
