Of course, in FFXV’s own inimitable way, at least in the original version, the reveal of this is clumsy as hell and barely ever talked about again. Much like when you kill the evil emperor who you don’t even know is the evil emperor till he offhandedly mentions it about halfway through the fight where you kill him

I’m very disappointed that boomers are out of Gears since this is the ripest time for their inclusion. You only fight generic big guys named Scions who sometimes do have boomshots but I think of the boomer yelling BOOM every time instead and feel deep sorrow.

What a terrible decision, they’re probably the best heavy-weapons-archetype shooter enemy I’ve ever seen, bit slow sponges that can’t take cover and telegraph firing by saying their name with great arcing grenades that are less dangerous than they appear. They’re the best enemy design in the game!

I edited my previous post to clarify but they replaced them with generic tough locusts who also cannot take cover but they don’t really telegraph when they fire with the boomshot anymore. They do, however, say “FIRING” when shooting at you with the Dropshot, a gun that has a very visible projectile and is already well telegraphed.
You’re fighting the Swarm, which is new Locust, and also some ~infected robots~, the old enemy archetypes from Gears 1-3 have been replaced with new Swarm guys who are basically the same thing but with less personality.
